I mean if he's rooting for all other Minnesota teams, I doubt it's just a random choice.
You're missing the point - He is accusing fans of big market teams of randomly selecting them because they have a lot championships and shit. My point is every one of us randomly select our favorite team - Granted that most of us randomly selects our team because of where we live, but it's still an arbitrary selection. Nothing is written saying you have to choose the team closest to where you live.

In my opinion there’s a big difference between rooting for a team that plays in the city/state you were born and grew up in and just randomly picking some team in another state to root for.

Rooting for your hometown team isn’t random. Rooting for the most successful team in the NBA is also probably not random.

You do know what random means?

Yes, I root for the organisation, the team, not the city. The fact that they happen to be in LA makes no difference to my loyalty.
There isn't any team in the NBA that is technically the same organization as 20 years ago. The Boston Celtics is not owned by the same owner who won most of those 17 titles, and neither is any time. In case no one understands this, The team owner owns the stock which owns the company. When Jerry Buss died, for example, 16.66 percent of the stock was transferred to each of the children. That was a material change of ownership and not hardly the same. Dr Jerry Buss didn't win all of those titles, so does that mean he doesn't own all of them or his daughter? I mean we could go on with this ridiculous line all night long

You do realise the team name isn't the 'LA Lakers', it's just the 'Lakers', right?

So yes, the Lakers did win 16 'ships.
I wasn't denying that the Lakers have won 16 titles, but plenty of people refer to them as LA Lakers even if LA isn't part of the name.

I will agree that the team Is the Los Angeles Lakers. That is what they are called, but they were also the Minneapolis Lakers before. Still the same organization

Sure it is - I could root for the Clippers, The Sacramento Kings or any team I want. I chose the Lakers

Yes I do, I am just pointing out how stupid that statement is. I never lived in Los Angeles, and matter of fact most of the fan's don't live in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is not my home town and never was - It's a nasty, filthy and dirty town, so why in the hell would I pick the Lakers just because they are in Los Angeles? I will give you a hint - His name if Magic Johnson

I mean if you're a Lakers, Cowboys, Yankees, Alabama fan then yes I think it's right to accuse you of being a bandwagon fan of teams with a lot of championship history. If you're a Lakers, Dodgers, and LA Rams fan I doubt anyone thinks you chose them because of titles instead of just being from/living in LA. And although I might disagree with anybody willingly wanting to be a Lakers fan I at least get why that'd be the case.

When it comes to the situation with the Lakers still counting their titles, I get that they won them as Lakers but the LA Lakers which is how they present themselves now didn't win 16. Fans will brag about all of the titles even if the reason they root for the Lakers is because of them playing in LA and they weren't around when the team was in Minnesota.

As for if my team will ever win a title, I think Sacramento has just as good a chance of being the home city to an NBA champion as they would if the Kings had moved to Seattle.

"had moved..." There's still time!

Also, how are you allowed to post here? The Rochester Royals (same franchise) won an NBA title in 1951. Red Holtzman was a guard on that team.

in fact one of the Lakers titles wasn't even in the NBA - it was in the old ABA before the NBA was created, but the Lakers formerly known as the Minneapolis Lakers still counts the title

Personally I am a Dallas Cowboys fan, but alas, they have let me down. I never have liked the Rams. Always liked the Dodgers, but I like the Angeles and Diamondbacks -

I know some people root for teams from different cities/states because of other members of their family rooting for them, but it can look bad depending on the group of teams someone roots for. Everyone has the right to root for who they want whether it's the home city/state team or not, but if you live on the East coast and just for a random reason root for the Lakers or live on the West coast and just randomly root for the Yankees it makes you look like a bandwagon fan.

What if you like a team because your dad loved them and taught you to as well? As in the city where he grew up but moved away from and had you. What's wrong with joining his tribe?

The thing is, do I get all giddy about the Philadelphia Warriors titles? Not really. Even the 1975 one was just a history lesson to me. What binds you to your team is what you experience WHILE YOU ARE rooting for them. IMO anyway.

People that wanna get all serious about counting titles from back then before they cared or were even born, that's just trying to make their dicks bigger. They got no pleasure from those titles nor felt the pain of losing most years which is what makes winning it MATTER and feel so good (believe me, Ws fan, I know this)

The guys who wanted to move the Kings to Seattle have probably seen how bad the situation has gotten with the team and would rather pray for an expansion Sonics team than offer to buy them again. Plus Vivek would charge like 4x as much as they were gonna previously pay.

And although that's true, I am too proud of a Sacramento Kings fan to count that championship(plus if I did count it that'd take away from the "my teams will never win a championship sports suck" shtick I got going). So I'm still waiting for the true #1 and until then I can post here as much as I want!

Getting this thread back on track:

Could my Wizards someday win a title?

In theory it is possible. They play in a market that while definitely not a top destination, it isn't terrible. If they were able to display some semblance of organizational competence and assemble a high quality core, it is possible they could also attract a big FA.

Do I see a championship coming in my lifetime?

No. Probably not. Because the Wizards haven't been competently managed since the 70s.
