Everyone laughs at him as the Commanders starter but Sam Howell is going to be a solid starting QB. He was great in college and will be good in the NFL.

I think there are two factors that are going to define this team’s season.

First: the defense. I was among the skeptics at the VJ hire. I voiced concerns about the front of our defense. Pass rush and run defense. However the reports out of camp and what we’ve seen from some of the limited pre-season action, we may be more functional there than I thought we’d be. I am hopeful this unit can keep scoring limited to 20 PPG and that’s pretty good in today’s NFL.

Second: the run game. If this team is top-5 on the ground it’ll go a long way toward supporting RW and his recovery from last season. We do appear to have a pretty solid running back room, so I am hopeful this develops and the passing attack benefits.

I think the defense being at the same level as last year’s, maybe even not quite as good, but a top 5 run game, this could be a 9 or 10 win team.

I've said all offseason that I think 9-10 wins is about right. The NFL team that spends the most in FA usually sees about a 4-5 game boost in their win total the first season. I'm not advocating for a team to go spend huge money every year as there is usually a big drop off in year 2, but with new coaching staff and a clear plan of who they want to be the spending makes sense.

I think they will be in a lot of close games where it is going to come down to the 2-minute drill. This was a weak spot for the Broncos last year, but I think that was more a coaching issue of struggling to get plays called in and just a lot of confusion on the field. SEems like Payton has made that an top priority all offseason so I expect the Broncos to look better in these situations.

I'll lean towards 10 wins if Jeudy is back within the first quarter of the season. Any longer and I'm going to start to question that.
