Why didn't we tag Maclin?

Chip holds Maclin in very high regard and it would surprise me if they let him walk. Not tagging him might be a show of good faith to him and his agent that they confident something will be worked out, if it hasn't been already.

Right back at ya, swat.

:stfu:

You could have made a post that was actually about Maclin or the tag instead of about me.

Everyone knows you think Chip is Dreamy. I generally like him to. But I want a bit more than that, I want to win Super Bowls. He does some things that worry me so I posted about it.
I did. Here it goes again....how did the franchise tag work out for Reid?

I think people forget how unreliable Maclin was. I would give him another 1 year contract. Might be the only way he is worth 9 mil. he will get 9 mil and be the next Cooper. Was he worth his 5 mil?

There are some awesome WRs in this draft. I love Jordan Matthews. I would be as happy with Maclin walking as McCoy personally. Spend the money on def FA and maybe RB and look at another WR in the draft. MMMmmm... Kevin White. I would trade up for this stud before Mariota.

I was very critical of Maclin his first 4 years. Though, this past year he really put it all together. Before I questioned his toughness and ability to make the tough catches when necessary. He did that this past year - he really improved his overall toughness and focus to the game. While he's not elite, he's damn good and I'm proud of his performance this past year.

Maclin will test the market but come back. At least I hope so.

I agree. He had a great year. But who did we really have that was a choice? And can he do it when he is not in a contract year? I'm just not sold.

I get the impression that Maclin simply doesn't want to be the first guy to sign. Wait until Cobb signs, and then make sure you get the same contract.

That said, KC makes alot of sense for Maclin. They need big time help at WR, Reid is there, and he is a Missouri guy.

I said it before, if Maclin hits FA, he's gone and heading to KC. Luckily the WR position is easier to fill, much like the RB, than trying to find a stud cb, safety, or LB. That being said, no reason why this deal can't done before FA begins.

Reid gets the free agents he wants. They don't leave town. If this goes to March 10 Maclin will be a Chief.

Who said anything about a report? 1) We may have passed on keeping Maclin off the market, 2) Maclin is one of the best receivers in the league on the market, and 3) Andy Reid needs a capable WR more than any team in the league.

If they tagged Maclin they would have to pay him $13 mil. They seem to think they can get a deal done without paying him that much. Time will tell on that one. Could prove to be a mistake, but frankly I think Maclin is not a top 5 receiver and should not get paid that much.

This. It was the right move. No one really expected the tag but a long-term deal is expected, as is significant improvement for Maclin next season.

So I guess that's why we didn't franchise him.

He got more than Cobb. ....didn't see that coming.

Cobb also didn't have an ex coach to go play for, and likely would have gotten a bigger deal on the open market, but why leave Aaron Rodgers?
