They can sign Lebron and George by stretching Deng and denouncing their free agents and non-guaranteed contacts. If they can get Lebron and George to take a little less than the full max in the first year, they could keep Randle and Bryant as well.

The difference between trading away Deng and stretching Deng is about $8M on this year's cap (+ whomever is traded away). Unless they have a third FA lined up for that money (or are forced to use the max on both AND are set on keeping Randle), moving the contract isn't necessary. They certainly can't move Kuzma without locking up Randle.
Yeah, I get all that.

The topic was the cost of moving Deng.

Some fans think Kuzma is too high.

I think that's crazy talk.

Understood, but I kinda agree with them, since there doesn't seem to be any NEED to move Deng.

That's goal post moving...lol

The topic was would any team take Deng for Thomas Bryant.

I said it would cost at least Kuzma and Lakers fans think that's too high.

Agreed.

Frankly they should be trying to attach Bryant and their 1st to get someone like ATL to take Deng.

Not a single team in the league would take that deal

Teams like ATL, that's exactly what they do.

It fits into their cap line.

If you think Bryant is worth a late first (like someone just said) you're giving up 2 firsts to move deng to a team who has 2 contracts on the books beyond that when Deng ends.

Use that cap space to buy assets.

But why would Atlanta take it? That Deng contract is so bad you'd have to include someone like Kuzma or Ingram to get rid of it. Two late first rounders aren't exactly enticing.
Not really. Lebron and George can be had by stretching Deng.
Dude....

That is not the topic I was commenting on.

Read the breadcrumbs....

What would it take to move Deng has nothing to do with having enough capspace for George and LeBron.

Thomas Bryant is not getting you off that contract...that's the point.

Well, mine anyway...

well, i believe the FO said no one's "untradeable", but i'm hoping the Lakers find a way to hang onto him...

like the kid's game...

I think that was more a message to Lavar to stfu or they'll trade Lonzo.

I'm sure that on some level, it was also a message to Lebron that they'll make moves to help get a title if necessary.

But I think the bigger message was aimed at Lavar.

I think they think that you are saying they have to move Deng to sign 2 max guys.

You're just saying that if they wanted/needed to move Deng this off-season, then Bryant and picks won't get it done.

I agree with you on that because Deng has 2 years left on his contract.

I think that next year, when it's an expiring contract, a guy like Bryant and picks would probably be enough, but not this year.

Sure, but those topics are kind of one and the same, as cap space for George and Lebron would be the only reason you would need to address Deng's contract.

If you want to keep Randle and sign those 2 guys you are going to need to do something with Deng.

I think if Paul George stays in OKC and CP3 stays in Houston, which I believe it’s more and more looking like these things will happen, then I think Lebron stays in Cleveland but will be demanding some roster changes if he stays. CLE will do whatever they need to keep him.

Stretch his contract

That isn't going to get you enough to keep Randle and sign Lebron/George. Not even close.

Flyer is right. Stretching Deng gets the Lakers the cap space to sign 2 max guys, but not enough to sign 2 max guys AND keep Randle.

They would have to unload Deng while taking nothing back and even then, Randle would likely have to give the Lakers a hometown discount unless the market for him isn't going to be as big as most seem to think.

Yeah. If Randle is going to get 20+ million from someone, there is almost no way the Lakers keep him if they get George and Lebron.

Yeah, I saw an article awhile back that laid outr how it could be done and I remember it including Randle taking a decent sized discount. I want to say that he'd have to agree to about $15 million per, but I'm not even sure about that.

The problem they have is that to make the cap space for 2 max guys, they have to renounce him which releases his cap hold, but also relinquishes their Bird rights.

Lakers can go over the cap to sign Randle once Lebron and George are signed as long as they have room for his cap hold.

Lakers would need to convince Lebron and George to take a combined 4.31m less than their projected salaries to make it all fit. If they want to keep Bryant as well, that number climbs to 4.86m.

Ball: 7,461,960
Ingram: 5,757,120
Kuzma: 1,689,840
Hart: 1,655,160
Deng (stretched): 7,362,000
Randle (cap hold): 12,447,726
4 Empty roster spots (cap hold): 3,327,708
George: 30,000,000 approx
Lebron: 35,607,969 (salary if he stays with Cavs)
Total: 105,309,483
Cap: 101,000,000
Need to cut: 4,309,483

Add Bryant: 1,378,242 (- 831,927 empty roster spot hold) = 546,315

If I understand what I've read and heard correctly, the cap hold is the problem. In order to have the cap space, they have to renounce him, which releases the cap hold, but they also lose their Bird rights.

My numbers above include his cap hold. If the Lakers can get Lebron and PG13 for a little under their projected cost, they can keep Randle's cap hold in play, allowing them to go over the cap if his salary exceeds his cap hold (as expected).

Called in sick and just heard Broussard float an interesting possibility.....

Sign James and CP and then trade for PG.
