I have. Houston has put up similar or better numbers against far superior WR's with a much weaker defense than either of them has had to deal with. Why do you think NE and HOU dont line McCourty or Jackson up with guys like AJ Green? It's not because they would just do a little too well against them.

Those stats are weak.. Because they would prove McCourty is superior to both.. There is no point to be made there.. The best 1 season performance between all of them was clearly McCourty's rookie season..

Really Houston plays well against teams who dont have elite receivers. He cannot match up again players like Green or Marshall. But how many corners really can?

A season. One. Other than that he isnt that much different that Houston. And Houston plays against the best of the best. He loses the elite matchups. He does well in others.

Yeah but when Gordon, James Jones, Nelson, and even old ass Santana Moss have good games something is wrong.. He actually had one of his better games against Marshall.. Too inconsistent overall though..

I agree that ideally Houston would be a 2. But for him to be a #2 we'd have to have a real shut down corner. And we havent had that chance other than maybe Sherman who i have no faith our team would have developed. If we had McCourty instead of Houston we'd be in the same spot or worse.

Doesn't need to be a completely elite corner.. But a good corner.. I think Jackson could be a 1 here.. I really do..

I think McCourty would have been better.. Remember it the Lions would still have Houston also..

Granted Jackson was 9th in the nfl, but again consider the defense the texans had and who Jackson lined up with vs who Houston lined up with. Its CB's only so McCourty isnt listed either way.

There are a few guys the Lions had a shot at on that list.. But I don't think it's an accurate list.. Jackson is very good though.. Not elite by any means.. But good enough to start here..

and by those numbers, big plays given up, and you said Houston would not even start in NE? Their #1 gave up the big plays twice as often as Houston.

OUt of all the #1's corners, who play against the best receivers in the NFL, how many gave up the big play less than Houston?

Sometimes it’s not just about the yards you give up, but the impact of those yards. Do they move the chains or don’t they? There’s a big difference between allowing a 9-yard completion on 3rd-and-10, or giving up a 3-yard completion on 4th-and-2. So looking into who’s giving up touchdowns and first downs is a real indicator of which cornerbacks are truly shutdown.

With Houston being the 12th best in the NFL, and one of 4 (by my count) guys that even could be considered #1 corners on that list he is a legit #1 corner. Still not elite but he is legit. We have problems on defense but Houston is far from the biggest one.
