Tonight Hokie Hoops is playing @Miami 9pm on ESPN2.

Here's a preview from the guys at Tech Hoops:
Preview | VT (2-6) @ miami (5-3) | Thursday, 9 PM | ESPN2|Tech Hoops

Miami looks pretty good, but can be beat. Looks like the key is going to be screen defense, post defense and rebounding because Miami has two good post guys and their guards love chucking threes.

Eh....VT Basketball or the season premiere of Swamp People (History @ 9).

This decision is a lot tougher than it should be

Miami is playing on a different level than us right now.

I wasn't all that impressed with Miami....not sure how they beat Dook. VT just flat out sucks. I can't figure out if we don't know how to run an offense or if the kids just don't have great court vision. Guys are open many times, but the ball handler never passes unless its around the perimeter.

Our primary PGs (Green and Rankin) combined for a total of 0 assists. Safe to say we lack any sort of offensive structure. Ugly game but what's new. At least Swamp People was somewhat entertaining when I flipped over out of disgust.

VT is extremely hot and cold. When their shooting is on, they seem unstoppable. At least until they turn the ball over and stop hitting their shots. There's a spark there, if they would stop covering it with wet cardboard.

I went to the Chalk Talk today. Seth Greenberg says he was very disappointed in how the team played. He said it was weird because the team had their 4 best practices before the game. He says the team is not competing and is the least physical team he has coached.

For the most part, I agree with him. I think it has a lot to do with youth. However, some of the upper classmen are a big part in it because they are making mental mistakes.

Could be a leadership thing. If they're looking to Hudson as a leader, then it all makes sense. He's the ultimate hot and cold guy. You have no clue what you're going to get from him not just with each game, but with each half. Sometimes he plays well, other times he has no energy and just seems to go through the motions.

The team is definitely dysfunctional and leadership is a part of it.

Yeah but its Jim Weaver. I don't see him making any moves regardless the level of necessity.

Boston College game tommorrow at 6pm on ESPNU
Here's a preview: Preview | bc (3-7) @ VT (2-7) | Sun., 6 PM | ESPNU|Tech Hoops

We really need to get it to Davila early. Last time he absolutely dominated every time he got the ball vs BC. BC doesn't zone so they can't guard the low block unless they double down on Davila which opens it up for our shooters.

$$$>performance.

This team is not a horrible team. With the exception of only 3 or 4 games, VT has had a chance to win all the other games they lost. The problem fans are having is that many of VT's shortcomings are correctable, but are not being corrected. We see the same mistakes and head scratching sequences game after game. Been this way for several years now.

Staff changes have been the norm for Seth, but I think he really needs to bring in a new assistant who knows offense and has had success developing big men or at least offense in the paint. It will be very bad for VT basketball, if DFS does not develope into an all-ACC caliber player in the next 2 years.

Yeah but attendance has been declining. Does that not mean less $$$?

what seth is expected to make:

2012-13: $245,136 base, $1,021,431 retention, $125,000 deferred … $1,391,567 total
2013-14: $257,392 base, $1,071,431 retention, $125,000 deferred … $1,453,823 total
2014-15: $270,261 base, $1,121,431 retention, $100,000 deferred … $1,491,692 total
2015-16: $283,774 base, $1,171,431 retention, $100,000 deferred … $1,555,205 total

Thats a lot of buyout money, plus you still have to pay the new guy. Considering Cassell only holds a little less than 10k and a lot of those seats are free/discounted, it would take years to recoup the loss.

Whether seth should be fired or not, i dont have the basketball IQ to give a solid opinion. Im just saying that from the financial side of things I wouldnt expect it to happen.

EDIT:actually im wrong. I think there may be a performance clause in his contract that says if he is canned based on performance alone VT only has to pay 300k a year for the remainder of his contract. Either way its a lot of bread that i dont see JW spending.
