Kuroda doesn't appeal to me at all, especially if draft picks are involved

41-46 record, 3.45 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 6.73 K/9 pitching in the NL, in a pitchers park doesn't make me exactly want this guy in Arlington

Buehrle is a nice back of the rotation guy that will eat innings and be competitive but he's just not great anymore, he's competent but not much better than anything we already have

Carlos Pena is just Chris Davis that takes a walk and is old

Type B FA's. Doesn't cost Texas anything. The losing team gets supplemental picks after round 1, but not at the expense of Texas. Only if we sign a type A do we lose picks.

Unless the rules have changed or someone lied to me :)

And Pena is early 30's. Still good enough for a 3-4 year offering.

Misread, bouncing back and forth between A & B lists

3-4 year offering??? But WHY??? He's terrible and has been terrible for a while

He has a glove, takes walks and hits for power, but doesn't do anything else productive, why would you lock yourself into THAT for 3-4 years??

1 year rental player the rest of his career is what I see

well turns out Kuroda is pulling a Heath Bell and has made it clear that he wants to stay with the Dodgers so it looks like he's out anyway

Sure are a lot of guys refusing free agency this year, wonder whats up. Maybe just a ploy? Not sure what Kuroda expects to get out of a team that doesn't have an owner.

Because he is a better fielder than Mitch and has more power than Mitch. Now that we have Nap behind the plate, our biggest hole right now is at 1B. Getting a one year wonder fluke in Kotchman isn't going to do anything and that is who's name I have heard dropped around here. Kotch has a better glove, but that translates to what, an extra 4 errors saved over the course of a season?

Give me the guy that can hit 20-25 HR's, 75+ RBI's, still bats left, and can do all of that in the same number of AB's that Mitch did. I like Mitch as a guy, but he isn't a lights out hitter or defender. He is just another "guy" to put in the lineup. Pena at 33 has at least 3 good years in him, even more if you can rotate him out as Young gets field time at 1B.

and then there's a Kotchman who is by far the best fielding 1st baseman available

Carlos Pena and Michael Young at 1st base?? Yikes.

Pena had a better fielding percentage than Moreland, so if Moreland and Young didn't make you say yikes then Pena shouldn't either.

Moreland is younger and far, far cheaper than Pena. But if we are wanting to stack the lineup even more than it already is, then Pena would be the man to do so without giving up anything defensively.

I don't follow. I talked about Kotchman in that quote. He is a good fielding 1B, but does nothing at the plate. He had a decent year last year, but his career numbers show that is the exception and not the norm. His fielding at 1B would be better, but his glove wouldn't save enough runs to offset the lack of production at the plate.

I'm just looking for this years Napoli. I was questioned in the spring when I said we should call TOR and get Nap when LAA traded him and some questioned why we would want a strikeout prone catcher that can't play defense. I just saw something in him from all the times we played against him, and knew he was a gamer. I'm aiming for that longshot and seeing if I can go 2 for 2 :)

Actually, I was refering to the notion of MY at 1st base. Hope that's thing of the past.
