That's ok. Next time you're at 7-Eleven and want to buy a blunt to celebrate a milestone in your life just ask them for an Athletic and see how that works out for you.
Tell me you are ghetto without wearing a bandanna…

Cleveland feels like a somewhat more successful version of the A's in my lifetime. I'd also lump them with the Rays
Rays is a hard one to rank. On the field, they are actually really successful. But they have a crappy name, ugly uniforms, no fan base and no national coverage. But they are probably the single BEST run baseball team in the entire league.

Of course they still belong in either the bottom tier, or MAYBE the next to bottom tier just because of their age, but if they can get out of Tampa and rebrand, I could see them getting some traction.

Part of me feels like I put the Marlins too high at #26. For them to win 2 World Series despite:

A. Never winning their division
B. Only making the playoffs three times ever, one of which was a 16-team playoff in a shortened season
C. They're .461 all-time with only 8 .500+ seasons
D. a lack of interest in fielding a competitive team

is... something.

marlins have only three seasons of playoff ball... 2 of those are WS... they shouldn't be anything better than 27th best...

I think the Rays need to get out of Tampa in order for them to move up. Picking up a random ring isn’t much of a needle mover. Miami has 2 ring, but they are absolutely an also-ran org. The Cubs have 1 in the last 110 years or so, and they are high-ish on my list.
are the Guardians also the Indians?

if so - garbage

yea.. rays have some recency bias which is why they are so high for me and nava... but they also have 8 playoff seasons which is pretty high for a team than is younger than 30 years old... but they have only 2 HOFers, no history, and no fanbase like you say... and will likely move to a new fanbase...

It's amazing how much they've turned around. .399 in the first ten seasons, .549 since then. And two of the seasons they've missed the playoffs were 90 win teams, which is *usually* good enough to make the playoffs in some capacity. 3 seasons around .500, only one really lousy team (2016 and they actually underperformed their pythag by 9 games).

It's even more amazing when you consider how they build their teams.

It was all in the devil!! Once they lost it they started winning.

just having Bob Feller puts the Guardians over 10+ teams
I wouldn’t go that far but factoring in some of those terrifying lineups of the 90s, their pitching development prowess of the 21st century, plus the longest winning streak of anyone in 100 years, they belong above 10+ teams, yes.

some of those 90's lineups were crazy.

1999 they scored over a 1000 runs. Last team do that beforehand was Boston in 1950.

here is a trivia question...in 1936 Lou Gehrig scored 167 runs

who is the only player in baseball since then to score 150+ runs? Not a Guardian just an FYI. If you dont cheat- it will be very very hard to guess.

Bob Feller is quite the character.....

made his debut at 17- ....struck out 15 in his first start- went back to high school in the offseason.

when he retired had the most no-hitters and 1 hitter in baseball history. Still shares 1 hitters with Ryan- threw an opening day no-hitter

Time Magazine cover

Combat in WWII- lost 4 prime years to the war- first major leaguer to sign up/volunteer for the war.

Held single game strikout record for a while at 18

Some people say he threw as high as 107.....in a suit he throw in a "race" against a motorcycle going 100 and looking at the tape they think he was at 104

Sporting News had him at #36 baseball player of all time in1999

Ted Williams said he was the best he ever faced and the best pitcher of the generation

if you start at 1920--- at least somewhat "modern" baseball- threw 377 IP in a season- 2nd most in a season since 1915. 3rd in most strikeouts in as season if you use that time frame- after Ryan and Johnson.

much more- he is kind of a legendary figure. bigger than life like not too many guys were.

You saying it will be very hard to guess makes me think it's not obvious ones like Rickey Henderson or someone like that.

Random guess, Todd Helton?

OK I looked it up after guessing, good one for the guy who did it somewhat recently that you are thinking of

However in 1937 DiMaggio scored 151 runs and in 1949 Ted Williams had 150

But good trivia question if you change it to OVER 150 after DiMaggio

Did you ever meet him and talk to him one on one? He was an amazing guy. You never knew where a conversation would go. He started out talking about his pitching mound at home and ended up talking about a bat he made from hedge wood. He said it must have weighed 100 ounces and he took it to spring training -- no one could even swing it.

this
Why is having HOF players being on your team an indication of well run?
Are the Angels well-run they had 2 HOFers at the same time
Will the rays ever have a HOFer|?

Could it be some Cardinals guy like Vince Coleman or Willie McGee? I remember a season where Tommy Herr had like 110 RBIs with 8 homeruns or something.

Edit. Looked those guys up. Not even close. I can't say Bonds or Ramirez because Ramirez played for Cleveland and Bonds doesn't seem very hard to guess. Maybe Don Mattingly?

Maybe Lenny Dykstra in that one year where he lasted the whole season without getting injured?

I looked up the answer after guessing (wrongly). Want to know it? Pretty tricky to guess.

Also when I looked it up I saw Wiggy messed up the question...in 1937 DiMaggio had 151 and Ted Williams had 150 in 1949. But if you reframe the question as who had more than 150 runs scored after DiMaggio in 1937 it's still a good one. Relatively recent.

You could leave the Rockies completely off the list and nobody would notice or care.
