I think they had plans to let Carson walk and is the reason they used a FIRST ROUND PICK on Penny. We have a first round pick RB on the team so i hope to GOD they do not use a pick on a RB in the first 5 rounds.

I wouldn't see the point of a RB before the 5th round this year. I have seen nothing from a legitimate source that says Chris Carson won't be back to 100% week 1, so even if you go worst case on Penny for the start of '20 he's still here through the 2021 season. We will also know a year from now if his 5th year option is picked up. If Carson walks then you elevate Penny to be the starter in '21 and draft Carson's replacement at the same time you know if Penny will be here for a 5th season. You don't have to groom RBs on the bench.
I made no assumption of complete health all year for any player I mentioned in that post. It's a fact that Chris Carson has missed 3 regular season games the last 2 years, so I am not quite sure what is causing people here to think he's some inordinate health risk. Most starting RBs don't last the whole year without injury.Taking an enormous risk assuming they will both be healthy all year.
Its a no brainer to draft a rb somewhere in the mid rounds that could carry the load. Travis homer definitely cannot.
Carson can be 100% healthy to start the year, its irrelevant. What is relevant is where we will be in january, i would feel much better with a talented rookie rb ready to take carries in the event we lose all our rbs again.
So you think we need to blow a 3rd round pick to replace Homer as the 3rd string RB?And homer DEFINITELY cannot be the guy, we saw enough in the playoffs.
Makes sense....if we had an unlimited # of roster spots and no salary cap.

Yeah, it would be a waste to do that (pick a RB early) when we need more options to fill out the starting OL & DL. At this point, we don't even really know who our starting RT is now that Ifedi and Fant are both gone. We added players who were backups elsewhere, but I don't think any of them are standouts. Iupati and Fluker are both older and get hurt a lot. And there is a really good chance that Clowney still isn't signed by draft day, so the DL may become a priority. No NO NOOOOO!
That pick needs to go towards the defense. I'm not so much worried about the offense except addressing the o-line.

I still have yet to see anything credible that says Carson won't be ready. You sign a cheap vet to be the RB2 to pick up the slack in the event Penny is on the PUP, then you discard him when Penny comes back or he hangs around based on other injuries. But you don't waste a valuable pick to create a logjam at a position just because you had heaving injuries there at the very end of the previous season. That is called being a prisoner of the moment.

I'm just saying what I think does or doesn't make sense, not necessarily making a prediction. In this discussion we're throwing out things we want or hope to happen. I'm hoping we don't draft a RB or WR in the first 3 rounds because I think it's not aligned with where we need more talent.Wouldn't be the first time that Seattle has valued a third string RB with a top half of the draft pick.
Well, of course. This team often does stuff in the draft that I don't expect or don't necessarily agree with. As I just said in another response, I'm just stating what I do or don't want to see happen and giving reasons why. I think drafting a RB early makes a whole lot more sense a year from now than it does in 2.5 weeks.Book marked, will be fun to see how this conversation ages.

Fractured hip seems like a serious injury to recover from. Having it heal isn’t the same as being the same as before the injury. I do think the Seahawks need to plan for the worse and draft a good RB this draft. The whole offense revolves around a strong run game and as much as some would like to see that change, it’s not going to change any time soon. Seahawks are full of surprises, but I’ll go on record as saying a RB in the first three rounds is going to happen. Most likely third round where they have two picks.
Still seems to high to snag a RB with the other holes needed filling.
