Finally Phil Thomas to the 53 man roster. Geathers to the practice squad with Bowen back. Hopefully he is active Sunday. Clark has not been playing well. Missing tackles especially sacks. Thomas was a ball hawking safety in college hopefully he can play well for us.

you have to be released to go to the PS

as for thomas , dean you are going down that road again . thomas hasnt played a single regular season snap in his career

it will take time and mistakes will be made before he is anything

They have confidence in him to be on the active roster. The guy was a stud in college. Just b/c a guy is new doesn't mean he will play bad. How do you explain rookies who take control there first NFL game? Its rare but it does happen.

well hes had all of the chances in the world to get called up earlier this season even with him being healthy but he didnt so hes probably got a lot of holes in his game. right now id rather have some special team studs instead of him

Clark is not playing well. But don't expect too much from Thomas. He will only see a few snaps a game for a while. He has never played a snap in the NFL so there will be mistakes. He may have been a stud in college (the perennial power house Fresno State), but so was Rambo. If he's smart, he will realize that his best shot at making a name for himself will initially be on ST. Thomas is not the answer this year. He may develop into the answer in a year to two, but it won't happen this year, barring injury.

There's a difference between a 3rd round safety and a 6th round safety. I loved the pick at the time, he has much more potential than Wrong Way, and have had high hopes for Thomas. Is it true that he's been healthy but not activated for weeks? I've been looking for months on any updates and if this is true that does say a lot. Maybe Philip Thomas is another Keenan Robinson, not out of the question. But probably not today.

I agree the upside is probably higher for Thomas than Rambo, but he still is an unknown and raw. I just don't see how we can realistically expect him to displace Clark or Merriweather this year. At best, they start to rotate him in at S occasionally as he learns. He contributes significantly on STs. Next year he makes a run at starting.

Yeah that's why I said not today, we should not expect much right away. Point is safety is obviously a huge need and if this guy can develop, and stay healthy, he may give us improved play as the year goes on and more importantly fill a huge need without using a pick or a cap hit from a big signing.

Robinson and Davis are good special teamers and backup Safeties. I think Clark and Thomas will rotate today. Merri is going to be in on every down. I saw Robinson in the lineup a few times last week too.
