I wish we were 14-29 from the free throw line.

And why are we shooting 32 three-pointers to Golden State's 35?

I think there's more 3-point attempts at home.

Also, even if we'd won, I wouldn't have been satisfied unless they could compete the same way on the road.

I'm tired of these severe home/road splits against the good teams over the years, like the Spurs, or GS. Where it's competitive at home, and worthless on the road.

Because in the playoffs, I expect road wins and home losses by good teams, so if they had proved during the regular season that they could compete and win some big games against good teams on the road, then I would have more confidence for a potential series win.

Barnes hurt the Jazz a lot. Not sure how they could have countered that. But Barnes is usually the unproductive player on the Warriors.

Disappointing to see him break loose today.

It's hard to tell Hayward and Thompson apart if not paying attention to the jersey they're wearing.

Just got done with this game against the Warriors and I am pissed off. Wish Jerry Sloan would have come down out of the stands and punched someone in the God damned teeth. Missing all those free throws was pathetic. Good night now.

Famous former Portland Trail Blazers broadcaster had a saying, "You've got to make your free throws!"

Oh, I have no confidence of winning a series, unless we got the fourth or fifth seed though I think we could win a game or so. So a regular season win at home would be big for me. I would still be mad at 14-29 on free throws, though.

I'm not just talking about this year. Past years too. Some people would emphasize the good home Jazz record going into the playoffs. But once the playoffs started, it wouldn't really matter as there's some home losses, and very few competitive road games.

So, not only do I want to shake off those disparate home road splits, but I want a home win and a competitive game on the road.

Also, the Jazz have been the best defensive team in the league the past 11 games.

Good win today, I wouldn't have been surprised at a loss from an athletic Minnesota team.

I agree with one exception. If you get home court advantage, either as a 1 seed, or because the teams above you have been upset before they get to you, then those home games matter. Yes, you win some and you lose some, but the Jazz will win some on the road, too, if they are a top seed.

I'm always excited for a big win, no caveats. I don't have as many moral victories as some do when we lose, home or away, and most reasons I have aren't excuses. I mean, I've seen people say we outplayed the Warriors but just couldn't hit our free throws. Free throws are part of playing and that was so poor that I couldn't say we outplayed them.

A reason, not an excuse, we lose can be injuries to a starter or a major backup, but those injuries also lessen my hypothetical expectation for a hypothetical series we'd have had if we advanced. So I don't feel that we would have won the championship. I don't carry, traditionally, the injury reason from one series to another, by the time the game ends, you must adjust for the next game. I will sometimes say that while you should adjust in-game, it still is a reason for a loss if it's a major one at a major point of the game.

An "excuse" is a misnomer, because it doesn't excuse the loss, it just complains. A reason is a factor amongst many factors. So a reason the Jazz lost to the Bulls was Jordan's push-off, Eisley's made three being taken away, and Ron Harper's after the buzzer three they couldn't review. But just among those three, those are multiple, just like the free throws WE missed that game. Any defensive lapses. Jordan's great. Pippen complements. Jackson's a HOF coach. Etc.

There were many reasons we lost, some our fault, some their credit, and some unfair. I'm sure we had some calls go our way, too. None of them excuse the loss, but the whatifs are frustrating. To lose in seven would have been a bigger accomplishment, not to mention the chance to upset. (I've rationalized it in my mind that we would have lost Game 7. It makes Game 6 and the pushoff more bearable to me.)

What were the reasons for the 1997 Finals?

What were the reasons for the 1997 Finals?

Jordan. Finals Virgins. The Weather. French Fries not being French. Artichokes. Free Throws.

Can you explain this one more?

I would also add Pippen, since he guarded Stockton for stretches. And averaged 8 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 1.8 blocks, 3.5 assists, and made more 3's in the series than Jordan.

Malone shot 60% on FTs.

Stockton shot a substandard 84%. So did Hornacek.

Russell, Foster, Eisley shot them well, between 87% - 92%.

Malone shot FTs well in 1998. Hornacek was still substandard with 83%. And Stockton was horrific with 72%. Russell was ghastly with 68%.

But because Malone shot FTs much better, the team average was better in 1998.

MHSL82 talks more about how the 1997 WCF was won, and the 1998 Finals.

I want more discussion on how the 1998 WCF was won, and the 1997 Finals.

Also, how about beating Houston in the 1st round, and Spurs in the 2nd round, with Duncan, in 1998?

A Spurs fan in the late 2000s still said Malone was better than Duncan, because of the 1998 series.

Actually he was using that series to explain why Robinson was better than Duncan. He said Malone outplayed Duncan in 1998, something that didn't happen to Robinson.

I don't know how he viewed the 1994 and 1996 Spurs-Jazz series then.

Malone averaged more points, rebounds, assists, steals than Duncan in 1998, but shot 42% to Duncan's 49%.

Artichokes.

I see what you did there.

What Bulls fans asked Jazz Fans in 1997, 1998:

Question: How do you like your chokes?

Answer: Artichokes.

The Jazz had a 6 point lead heading into the 4th quarter of game 6 in 1997, and were outscored by 10. Talk about a choking artichoke.
