loss of 3rd round pick this year, 1st round pick in one of the next 4 years (devils choice) and a 3 million dollar fine......

they must have really been pissed...

i'm just a bit suprised it was this harsh especially when, by grandfathering this contract in, they almost admitted that under the WORDING of the past cba it was legal

How is it that the other contracts that we're worse than the Kovy deal didn't earn a fine?

I love it as a Flyers fan, but you dont deserve it. If other front loaded contracts are allowed and yours is rejected you ar least shouldnt be punished.

i guess because they were never found guilty of circumvention

i understand a penalty but that seems massively harsh.

Furthermore, I don't understand how the Devils can commit circumvention if the contract was never even valid. Hasn't the league voided contracts in the past because there was something wrong with the way they were worded, but not punished teams by allowing them to resubmit.

But the league obviously thought that the other contracts were circumvention because they said they would void them if no deal with the PA was reached.

see i get a punishment i understand that, but shit, pick one or the other. picks, or money

this seems over the top... i always take pride in not being one of the whiney devils fans who don't say wha wha wha the league hates us

but this seems borderline malicious.... if you grandfathered in a long term front loaded deal you almost admit it was legal under writing... or at least close enough to legal to confuse everyone and cause a change in rules

yeah i agree this doesnt make sense....it was found that they didnt try to circumvent the cap....so how is there a penalty? so is chicago philly boston couver going to get the same punishment?

do the devils have any recourse in this? an appeal?

The Devils should call up Bloch and get his opinion.

Steep punishment for violating an unwritten rule. The fine I can understand but multiple picks? One being a 1st? Forget the Devils bias, if this happened to the Rangers or Flyers I would still consider it outrageous.

Also, as if trading guys to get under the cap wasn't difficult enough already, we have 2 less picks to use as bargaining chips.

yup that was my biggest worry right there.... no bargaining chips....

i think this may rule out any hope of getting rolston traded and zubes and salv may BOTH be hitting the waiver wire

the draft picks were a little overboard but at this point im just happy the fine doesnt count against the cap.that would have been my main concern. The devils can appeal it but its doubtful they will.the only bright side is that the fine money goes to charity.

Agreed, my biggest concern was the fine going against the cap. We would have been royally screwed in that case.

As for penalizing Devils - it is wrong, cuz it was under CBA rules. But giving 3 different penalties - NHL is out of its mind... crazy ... moronic ... just can't use bad words here.

Can Devils appeal to try at least decrease these penalties?
