“Empire” had the better ending. Luke loses his hand and finds out Vader is his father. Han is frozen and captured by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. Just like in real life. All “Jedi” had was a bunch of Muppets.

It shared some of the flaws of Episodes 1 & 2 but it was by far the best of the prequels. No Jar Jar certainly helped but it wasn't the only reason why I think it was the best from the prequels.

It's always a toss up between empire and return. At the moment I'll go return. I was young when I saw saw all of the original trilogy, as such, I liked the ewoks, which seems a complaint to some. I thought the indigenous life fighting with what they had a good plot point over a heavily stacked empire. I remember the watching the battle of endor when I was around 6-8.

The force awakens pretty much rehashed everything you liked about the original.

I can see rogue one being high based on it's a separate story in the universe, which was well done.

Not getting the love for the last Jedi, though. I think someone said it was the most complicated? Among the dumbest maybe. Okay, our bombers are really important, but they're slow as fuck to position and have an even worse utility when trying to use said bombs, as the formation we use them in will wipe out the entire fleet with the slightest fuckup.

Empire is probably the correct answer objectively but RotJ has always been my personal favorite. I just think it wrapped up perfectly and I loved the Jabba part. Plus, it had the best space battle any film had for decades.

Also, anyone who doesn't rate Phantom dead last is just fucking wrong. You can literally skip the entire movie and not lose any piece of the story. That's how bad the movie is

I don't know, it does kind of point to the Jedi being weak. They see potential in this kid, but can't bring his mom along for the ride?

I actually think Sith and Clones could have been legitimately good movies with one change; getting any actor better than Hayden Christensen. Much of the story content in them is fine (give or take some things), but his utter lack of talent kept him from conveying the emotions his scenes required. Anakin is suppose to be a cocky, confident guy because he's so gifted and because of that, he gets selfish and becomes corruptible. Yet you get none of that from Hayden. He's just a stiff, blank canvas of nothingness. I bet a lot of people's opinions of those movies would be different if he wasn't in that role.

Yes, it is really bad... Too bad that they wasted Darth Maul and the best light saber fight on it. Those to things alone should propel it past AOTC, but Jar Jar is just too much to overcome.

the whole padme to anakin romance was fucked form the start with the age diffrence, another actor could have made this more palatable, but it'd still be fairly poor.

Other than being first star wars movie in forever, Darth Maul was such a bad ass, really built up that film, only to be let down. Coolest looking darksider.

As much as I'm torn between which of the 3 originals is my favorite, I'm also torn between episodes 1 and 2 as to which one is my least favorite.

Episode 1 had Darth Maul who was pretty bad-ass, but he didn't do too much. He was bad-ass in that one light saber duel and had a cool look but was wasted potential. Episode 2 had Count Dukoo. While played by a great actor, he was a pretty lame follow-up to the likes of Darth Maul and Darth Vader. He was just an old man with nothing really cool about him. We didn't even see him til around the 3rd act. For a non Sith villain I suppose we had Jengo Fett, as they tried to recapture the popularity of his clone son during the originals but meh, wasn't the same.

Episode 2 probably had the worst portrayal of Anakin. I think both Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christiansen take a lot of unfair criticism but in HC's case I think it is deserved to some extent and mostly for Episode 2. I thought he did a somewhat better job in Episode 3 but still had some pretty bad lines to work with. That being said, I liked Anakin slaughtering the sand people after his mother died and starting his turn a lot more than I liked learning that he built C-3PO and watching the pod-race that seemed to go on forever.

Well, the TPM is what really hurt that perspective. I think Padme was suppose to be something like 14 to 16. Anakin was what, 8 to 10? That's not big of a gap, especially when they both reach adulthood. Problem was they cast Natalie Portman, who looked far too old for what they were going for

Empire for sure but I think Rouge one was he best after the original trilogy.

Hey how come Rouge One does did not get number?
Side story.

It's Episode 3.5.

Or 3.1. Or somewhere in between. Even though it's all during 3 really. I think.

I love it. And hope for more of the sandwich films.

As I mentioned in my last comment, I thought he improved a lot between episodes 2 and 3 but I agree that someone else still could have done better. The name I often hear is Leonardo DiCaprio. I'm not sure if he was ever actually considered or if that's just a name fans often throw out.

Acting ability aside, I think they should have cast someone taller than him (or DiCaprio) and whose physique was closer to Darth Vader from the originals. I wasn't a huge fan with how they explained the height difference by cutting off his remaining natural limbs in Revenge of the Sith. Maybe if it was an inch or 2 but it was just really hard to buy that this guy was the menacing Darth Vader who was played by a tall body builder in the originals.

Just got home from watching Last Jedi. My initial placement is up in the class of Hope and Emoire, but probably sitting at #3. It has the potential to be my fave one yet, though. It was that awesome.

Revenge of the Sith is way underrated in my opinion.

The prequels get a lot of hate, and I think most of it is fair criticism. But I remember watching Return of the Sith, after growing up on the original trilogy, and I just loved how this movie connected everything together. It sparked my love for Star Wars all over again after Phantom Menace nearly killed it off for me.

Phantom Menace is by far the worst for me, and it’s hard to identify my favorite.

Challenge:

Come up with a rough draft of how you would like to see Episode 9 play out.

- or -

Feel free to add onto, change or critique mine...

  • Opening scrolling preface.
  • Focus down onto a “new” planet. The few remaining rebels in the Falcon cruise toward the planet to refuel and formulate a plan.
  • Finn and Rose tell of the casino planet with rebel-sympathizing peasants. The group agrees to split up…
  • Group 1 thread: Finn, Rose, Rey and R2 band together to acquire a local ship and fly back to the planet.
    • On the way, Ghost Luke appears to Rey. He encourages and briefly mentors her. Teaches her how to cloak herself from being detected from Force-sensitive foes as he had for so many years.
    • Upon arrival, they discover that those little rebel peasant kids actually have a secret leader who is masquerading as a casino administrator… Ahsoka Tano! Not only is she still alive, she still had all the Jedi archives she had secretly extracted from the Jedi temple as proof of innocence before she was wrongfully court-martialed. Given her location and secret identity, she had also secretly extracted and stockpiled plans and manufacturing sites of all Republic, Trade Federation, Empire, First Order and Rebel/Resistance technology.
    • Ahsoka and the resistance group agree they need to congregate with Leia and Poe to formulate a plan to use that stockpiled knowledge to rebuild the resistance, destroy the First Order, defeat Kylo and re-establish a galactic senate.
    • Ahsoka, although not necessarily training her peasants to be Jedi knights, had trained many of them in the ways of the force to an extent. The peasants want to join the resistance. Before they can, though, they need to be freed from the planet; so they formulate a plan to destroy the casino city and masters.
    • After lots of action and dangerous trials, they succeed and escape back towards Poe.
  • Group 2 thread: Poe and BB-8 leave the Falcon to search the “new” planet for rebel sympathizers, possible base destinations and resources.
    • Poe enters a settlement’s cantina and encounters a young Mon Calamari who is getting hassled by a drunk gangster. Poe settles the conflict through aggressive negotiations, then follows the youngster to his home to speak with his family about rebel resources. It turns out this family is relatives of Admiral Akbar. Akbar had contacted the family to help him find suitable places for rebel bases and recruits prior to his death. Poe recruits the family to the cause and prepares to assemble with Leia.
    • Little did Poe know, though, that there was a bounty hunter in the cantina who had recognized him and contacted the First Order.
  • Group 3 thread: Leia and Chewy stay with the Falcon as a central base.
  • As Poe and the Mon Calamari are on their way to the Falcon, Kylo’s ship passes overhead, escorted by two trooper ships, headed straight for the Falcon. Poe races to the Falcon to see that Kylo already has Leia and Chewy out of the ship on their knees in front of him. Kylo exchanges pleasantries with his mother, then executes her in ruthless Sith fashion. Kylo exchanges pleasantries with Chewy, then executes him in ruthless Sith fashion.
  • Poe & company are spotted and run. The troopers follow them while Kylo gets back into his ship, flies overhead and obliterates the Millennium Falcon.
  • The locals help Poe and company escape by supplying a ship and exit route, but a space chase ensues. The locals are able to destroy one of the trooper escorts from the ground. Poe destroys the other one in the air. Kylo and Poe dogfight in the air, but Poe is the better pilot and gets the better of Kylo - damaging his ship enough to make it crash to the ground while Poe escapes.
  • As Poe escapes, the others arrive. They land and find Poe missing, the Falcon destroyed and Leia and Chewy executed. A heartwarming send-off follows.
  • They are informed by the locals of the confrontation and escape; however, Kylo secretly spots them and follows them.
  • They are able to establish communication with Poe and pick a rendezvous: the nearby planet of Kamino.
    • While on Kamino, they compare notes and formulate a plan on where to begin setting up a home base. They also acquire more intel and resources from the “cloners”.
    • While acquiring intel, they learn of an unaltered clone of Boba Fett that was orphaned when Boba was taken out on Tatooine. Through some research, they find that he is still alive and currently goes by the name “DJ”. …That same asshole hacker that sold out Finn and Rose.
    • They are informed of incoming ships and scramble to escape.
  • All the while, Kylo had tracked them to Kamino and called his First Order ships to congregate there for the “once and for all” destruction of the Resistance. They fully blockade the planet and prepare for a full invasion.
  • A daring space escape attempt ensues, but are severely outmatched even for Poe’s piloting skills. Suddenly, the many barricading dreadnoughts begin self-destructing. Poe receives a communication from DJ that he just hacked the ships and expects full payment for his services when they escape. …which they do.
  • Once the resistance arrives at the galaxy-centralized “home base” planet, they plan to coordinate the simultaneous destruction of all First Order manufacturing facilities and the destruction of Kylo and Hux.
    • Poe remains at “home base” as the new leader of the Resistance along with the bands of fighters they picked up along the way. Of course, Kylo and Hux tracked the location of the base and are closing in.
    • This time, however, Poe doesn’t just stare at a countdown screen – hoping things go well until his last-second crisis is averted. Poe executes evacuation protocol, fight, flight and re-congregation plans.
  • Rey, Ahsoka, Finn and R2 sneak onto the First Order command ship courtesy of some more DJ hacking for a final confrontation with Kylo and Hux.
    • Stealthy sequences galore. R2 provides remote direction and electronic assistance.
    • The three manage to make it all the way to the command center where Kylo and Hux are preparing their assault. Epic battle ensues.
    • Finn kills Hux and spouts a pertinent and comedic John McClane-esque one-liner.
    • Ahsoka and Rey manage to best Kylo in an epic lightsaber battle that surpasses the greatness of the Darth Maul battle.
    • Both villains are definitive corpses, not dumped down a bottomless pit with the assumption that they’re dead.
    • Ahsoka and Rey experience some kind of epic Force epiphany that guides them to realize perfect Force balance.
  • Finn communicates to Poe that both leaders are down and he should push the red button. Poe does. A nice montage of First Order manufacturing facility destruction ensues.
  • Finn then gets on the First Order hotline and broadcasts an amazing speech encouraging all First Order slaves to lay down their arms to restore the galactic senate. There’s a montage of compliance and happiness that the tyranny is ending.
  • Finally, the galactic senate is rebuilt with all major players in the Resistance voted to hold high-ranking galactic governmental leadership seats. Smiles. Hugs. Triumph.
  • Circle swipe into credits.
