There are others on the board who are also very knowledgeable about PCs and stuff. I like to keep current and post stuff I think others might be interested in is all, especially if it helps them and is useful in some way or the other.

So that's a yes?

I'm going to take that as a yes and I agree many others here are very knowledgeable and be interested in a high tech forum.

A forum on high tech here would be great. Put KansasSooner in charge. It would open some eyes here, I know I'd be reading it everyday and adding what I could.

I would probably post in it but other than that...it's the being in charge and what that entails. I mean, how much is there to that? Does someone really need to be in charge...

On a tech forum? The regular mods could handle it no problem, at most you might want a participant to be a mod just to merge thread perhaps.

I don't know why a mod would be needed if it goes like the TV/Entertainment forum...well, maybe it would not be so cluttered but still for the most part that forum more or less just goes along without any problems.

Good to hear, still keeping up on some threats on web is a good idea. KansasSooner gave some good advice a while ago on how to protect yourself from one of the latest threats that encrypted computers then demanded ransom. The protection you have won't stop this threat.

Can anyone please provide info on this? Thanks

BitDefender had an app that blacklisted the sites which CryptoLocker came from. However, the botnet was taken down a couple days back and most, if not all, anti-virus software now catches the infection and stops it. If your AV software definitions are up to date you don't need to install the app...doesn't mean a new variant won't appear and get around your defenses though. :(

Well as long as there are always variants coming out people like us will still have jobs to go to.

:suds:

I swear I have tried everything possible to get people to stop opening email attachments or clicking on fake message panels and yet it still happens. And when it's a new variant I end up having to clean up the mess.

You got to wonder where he was wandering, over 1000 PUPS?

Best I could figure out it was either an infected e-mail or an infected site he went to looking for parts for piece of machinery he was trying to fix. The worst part was the rouge software that got installed shut off a lot of Windows services. If you tried to re-enable the services it would just turn them back off. Had to go to safe mode first to re-enable the services, reset the UAC and run MBAM to clean the damn thing.

That laptop that had zeus also had zeroaccess. Once they are on your machine they love to invite friends of theirs to the party. There was enough damage that even though the infection is cleaned I'm still going to reformat and clean install the unit early next week.

Nasty business.

Bodhi Linux

I'll save you the keystrokes...

I was going to try this out today, but didn't want to use it on my SSD, so I reinstalled my original HD, installed windows 7, anti virus, chrome, partition the drive, downloaded Bodhi, burned it to a CD and tried to install it. Didn't work, corrupted download perhaps, I'm going to give it another try and download it again.

I have an old Dell with a 500MHz P4 in it and six spare 40 Gig HD lying around to test distros with, it took awhile but I got Bodhi installed and running on it. It is a minimal install in that all you get it the desktop and the browser. You end up installing a lot after you get it up and running if you want to do anything beside browse the internet.

I must be doing something wrong because it keeps hanging up on the welcome to Bodhi screen on the install.
