Lots of interesting stuff seems to be coming out of Schoenfield's SweetSpot over at ESPN.....

A current article compares McCutchen with Jay Bruce and Colby Rasmus, along with a bunch of other comparison players who had good seasons at age 23..... and looks at their careers going forward. He concludes that McCutchen has a better chance of being an MVP-type player than Bruce or Rasmus. (I gotta feeling that the vast majority of Pirate fans thought that, anyway..... but the article provides more basis.)

I was surprised by how many players on the list DIDN'T improve much.

The three will always be linked together, all being 2005 first round picks.

Interesting to see how many guys year 24 seasons were worse than year 23 seasons; not sure what to make of that.

But to me McCutchen isn't the type of player that wins an MVP, not enough homerums, value is based on bat relative to position. Since Bruce is more likely to hit 40 HR, I think he is more likely to actually win an MVP, but McCutchen will be the better overall player.
