Of course they matter, but there is a plethora of good running backs coming out every year and the good ones get used harder than soft tires in a NASCAR race. They are replaceable and using a first or second on one beats paying huge contracts.

Pretty cheap? He's the highest paid RB in the league and he cost SF a 2, 3, 4 and the next year's 5. That's not anywhere close to cheap.

SF was only on the hook with McCaffery to the tune of about 3 years $36M. The rest of his contract Carolina paid. Some of that draft capital was for that reason. Not saying he came cheap....but some of the draft capital wasnt for the player but for the contract reasons.

It is still hilarious to think about the people who said that was a bad trade from SF's perspective and people liked it from Carolina's perspective.
