Hopefully this line-up this afternoon can score some runs,we need to stop the bleeding.
You can't win if you can't score. Many times, the Reds can't score without a homer. Sometimes they score with 2 out hits... but without baseunners that means it has to be a solo homer. It just the game plan of the NL against the Reds, and it's effective. Choo and Bruce are suspect against lefties, BP doesn't hit many away from home, and Votto gets walked whenever possible. The rest are easy to manipulate. It isn't rocket science. Gotta hit, advance runners and run the bases.
Sorry but paying Joey Votto $250 million to get one hit in a series seems a bit out of line. Maybe we ought to just insist that Mister Baseball actually step up and stop looking like he's Drew Stubbs at the plate.
If Denard Span dont make 2 really good plays in CF Reds probably take the lead and win the game. This team is banged up and tired.Hopefully tomorrow we can get a W and head to St.Louis.
Not enough lineup churn. You can't go through the order twice with 2-3 baserunners and expect to get a break late in the game against MLB outfielders. Look at the teams that win -- they score in the first inning.
No problem with looking at the positives and understanding the reasons why teams don't do as well as they can. I realize the opposition also has talent and if the results were reversed, we'd be all in the clouds about how great we are. Still, there's a medium ... a team with this much talent ought to be putting up a fight instead of being one-hit twice in a row and apparently not being addressed for it. I'd be throwing water coolers if I were this outfit. I mean, Dusty can be a nice guy if he wants but somebody ought to be kicking the Gatoraid can for being this inept.
Too many slumping teams suddenly get healthy against the Reds. I don't believe in coincidence repeating over and over. The Reds offense issues didn't start with Ludwick's injury and won't be solved with his return. This team has been programmed to require multi homer games to score 5 runs, when they should be able to manufacture 3 every night and use the homer to blow teams out occasionally. Dusty can't hit for them but he needs to tweak the lineup to at least limit outs in between hitters. The top of the order has historically been a spot where Dusty compulsively hits a middle infielder or outfielder hitting under .250, instead of bunching Choo, Votto, Phillips, Bruce and Frazier together.
Good hitters make outs too, so throwing an automatic out in there just adds to the failure. Gotta be able to make a left turn without a 2 out hit or homer. Until that happens, nothing is changing but the opposition, and even IF the Reds can make the playoffs only beating sub.500 teams, they'll have no clue IN the playoffs where the crappy pitching isn't tossing batting practice to them anymore.
