The announcement was that Richardson is the starter for game 1. We've known that Pead is suspended for game 1 for a LONG time now. How is this news?

Sure, it implies that Richardson would be the starter beyond game 1, but there's no guarantees. Stacy could light it up this weekend and pass them all.
That's not how the Rams did things last year. Pre-season games were almost ignored as the depth chart was decided by how things were on the practice field. That's not to say that things haven't changed...but it's the default position unless someone knows better. To refresh people's memories the best offensive performer*, (skill positions), in last year's pre-season games was Richardson. The best WRs were Givens, Pettis, and Amendola, (in that order). The best TE was McNeil. The worst performers were Pead, Mulligan, Smith, and Gibson. 2 of the worst 4 were named as week 1 starters, (along with Ojinnaka at LG!!!), Smith had no business making the 53 man roster, and Pead was Pead. All i'm saying is that we don't know what they're seeing in camp and the situation is probably very different from what we imagine. The last official depth chart was several weeks ago and it had Watkins as a starter, (with Austin presumably starting at WR2 as there's a typo).

You are speaking to my point shopson. This wasn't a two man competition and for a story about Richardson being named the starter in Game 1 really has little to do with Pead being suspended for Game 1, other than it should have been mentioned, as you did in your first post when calling this a non story.

The fact that a 7th rounder in Richarson, nearly Mr Irrelevant (Just two picks away) is the guy one year after drafting he and Pead, then picking up 6th rounder Ganaway off waivers and drafting Stacy in the 5th brings all the RB's with a chance, into the story.

Like Junkie, I'd like to see our big backs in Ganaway and Stacy used in the short down and short and goal situations. Heck, who knows that could take some attention away from Sammy to scramble for the first down or TD every now and then. I don't think Richarson and Pead can garner that type of attention away from Sam, but a bigger and more powerful back could!

And to think we could had Lacy!!!
Lacy looks good, real good however there were many question marks about his multiple injuries and who knows how that will play out, I think he has a hamstring injury right now.

It just seems to me, if we took him, that something would happen and we would hear everyone talking about how stupid the front office was knowing there were questions about his ability to stay healthy and we took him in the first round all the while failing to address our LB issues when Ogletree was there for the taking....

If you're talking about the trade up and giving up our second rounder to get Tavon, I think by seasons end, we will forget all about that.... As long as someone steps up at RB, keeps the pressure off of Sam and keeps the chains moving we will all sign off on the trade up.

By the way, I was one who wanted Lacy in the second round if we could nab him there but was completely satisfied getting Tavon in lieu of the trade.

Yea, I remember that discussion Vita. I was parroting SJ76's scenario on another thread of passing on Austin and getting a similar speedster in later rounds and then taking Lacy and Ogletree. You may be right Vita if things jell as the season progresses but I am fairly certain if things do not work out, we will be addressing two maybe three areas in next year's draft. O-line and RB for sure!

And to think we could had Lacy!!!

29 other teams could of had him too and they passed. Like others have said he could be an injury ridden player, and as we know with RB's it's a crap shoot. We could sit here and say, should of would of could of, but we can't really make a judgement call 2nd game of the preseason.

That's true jacobarch. And now that Ganaway has walked away I guess will see what all of the thought process was going into the season behind selecting Pead and Richardson last year and Stacy this year and not Lacy.

As this past draft played out, I was really hoping that we would take a look at this kid. I couldnt believe that he dropped. I believe we will regret not taking him

Not Trent Richardson nor Eddie Lacy, I have my eyes set on another Bama back for our Rams...

T.J. Yeldon and with a stellar Sophomore year, who knows he might declare himself for the draft next year.

He may be the best of the three.

Vita, I've thought that very same thing. I liked him more than Lacy last year.

Well, we have no big backs any longer with Ganaway quitting to finish his degree. We will have to do something.

Time will tell if Richardson is indeed our guy. He has my support.

Richardson just maybe the guy but what is somewhat disappointing is the emergence, if any, of Zach Stacey or his progress has been under the radar. Is the focus so intent on Pead that we have overlooked Stacy and even Cunningham? I am not sure at this juncture.

Stacy missed the last game with an injury, which hasn't helped. Richardson didn't show much of anything against the Broncos tonight, so I would think his grip on the starting job is tenuous at best.

We didn't really run the ball...

True. Rams offense wasn't all that effective for the most part.

Richardson: 5 carries for 10 yards, 1 catch for 5 yards (1 target)
Pead: 5 carries for 22 yards, no catches (1 target)
Stacy: 5 carries for 8 yards, 2 catches for 19 yards (3 targets)
Cunningham: 1 carry for 8 yards, no targets

Keep an eye on Ace Sanders. He's Tavon's size and plays alot like the Tavon. He was also selected in the 4th round of the 2013 draft. So Lacy, Ogletree would have been unreal - 2 beasts from the SEC I might add. You take a slot guy 8th overall or in the 4th? I am anxious to see what Tavon can do and how many plays he's on the field for.

But Lacy, like I said before was and IS looking like a young Steven Jackson.

Cunningham might earn the #2 spot. Pead hasn't done anything yet, I'm hoping he turns into another Albert Brooks but so far not much has impressed. Cunningham has barely gotten the ball but has looked good every time he has. I'd like to see more of Stacey.

I doubt Cunningham is the #2. He may not be active on game days, barring injury.
