Just saw this too...The question is, who the hell is going to play MLB for us this season?

Maketavich is going to play MLB after we draft him. Huge savings in cap space money. Not Sure I agree with Long but it was going to happen sooner rather than later. Keep going Fisher. Britt, Kendricks, and Saffold are next.

If they target him like they did Havenstein, they'll move up or down to get him.

More appropriate to say Jared Cook was dropped.

Ladarius Green and Dwayne Allen are free agents I believe. Allen would be a good fit...had an awful year last year but has a lot of potential. Green is likely out of the Rams price range unless their priorities are different than I think they are.

This is an excellent LB draft and an awful TE draft. Awful, awful TE draft.

Hopefully Chris Long gets a playoff run somewhere or better yet revisit that contract and 'stay' in LA. He was fun to watch and certainly a guy that always put in effort.

Anyone but JL I hope.
He should probably hang it up. He had a good run and made some good money. At that stage, he is a shell of his former self and is probably just risking injury for no reason. He was a solid player. Not legendary but decent and was decent when surrounded by some pretty bad players at times.

He was definitely a workhorse. Played 99% of the snaps again last year I believe. NEVER missed games and played through injuries. That has to take it's toll, especially without the carrot of winning very often.

By cutting Chris Long, James Laurinaitis and Jared Cook, the Rams save $24.375 million on their 2016 cap. They'll carry ~ $4.7M in dead $$.

  • joelworldJust heard that I'm about to be unemployed. I just want to personally and humbly thank the city of St. Louis again for all your support over 8 years. I love y'all so much for sticking with me through the ups and downs.
I also want to thank our LA fans, and although I may never join you in SoCal, just know that I'll always appreciate you.
Bottom line is- this is a production business. No excuses, the last two years have been shit. It's been painful to experience because I care deeply about my performance and my responsibility to my teammates. Before the last two years I'm very proud of what I was able to accomplish in St. Louis. I'm not surprised, but it doesn't make it any easier to leave your family.
I look forward to the next chapter. Hungry and a lot to prove all over again. First I'm gonna have a beer.
Wishing it shook out differently but eternally grateful,
    C Long

Wow... unsurprisingly surprising moves from the Rams. I'm REALLY gonna miss Laurinaitis and Long. Two true class acts! Thanks for all the years of hard work, leadership and memories and good luck wherever your career paths take you!

On the business side, this move is gonna free up about $23 Million in cap room, which can only be a good thing for free agency. Looks like the youth movement will continue in Los Angeles.

Oh... and Jared Cook... don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya, fucko.

Would like to see Long come back on a reduced salary. He seemed like the true leader of the defense, even though his production has fallen off due to injuries. If not, would like to see him go somewhere where he can get a good shot at a ring (as long as it's not New England).
Sucks about JL as well but I can't say I'm surprised by the move.
Cook's leaving was a long time coming and should've happened sooner (wish we didn't sign him to start with). Won't miss him one bit.

I would like to see Hayes, Sims and Long signed. They could almost get all 3 for Longs salary.

I can definitely see that happening.

Long I think would be interested in coming back and even he admits he wasn't worth his salary the past couple years with the injuries. No clue about JL though.
