In trying to compare the teams in the two championship series, I looked at the number of position players on each team that had a wRC+ of 100 or more and a WAR stat of 1.0 or greater, plus the team records, runs, ERA, and quality starts. For perspective I first looked at the Phillies, a bad 2013 team. I was impressed with the power of the Red Sox who have 11 players with a 100 wRC+ and 11 players with a WAR of 1.0 or more. This makes up for their higher ERA.
If I had done this prior to the start of the playoffs, I would have concluded that the Dodgers would have more trouble beating the Cards than the Tigers would have in beating the Sox. Obviously, the Phillies have quite a bit of work to do next year.
Team___wRC+>100__WAR>1____W—L___Runs___ERA__QS
Red Sox_____11_________11______97-65____853____3.79___95
Tigers_______8__________7_______93-69____796____3.61__108
Cardinals____8__________7_______97-65____783____3.42___88
Dodgers_____8__________9_______92-70____649____3.25___93
