24th home run by a reliever to a leadoff guy. TWENTY FUCKING FOUR. With 2 months left.
What blows is I sit through these games and seeing the team fight back in the 9th to tie it and 3 pitches into the bottom of the 9th, Sean Whoever hits one out of the park.

As an aside, has Cutch finally decided to give up the 'roids or is he just old now?

If anything, the Reds are showing that the contenders need to pay attention.

4 to 0 with 2 outs and a runner on 1B in the bottom of the 9th, plenty of wiggle room for the bullpen. NOT!!

That loss is an example of giving one away. The Cardinals score 5 runs on only three singles. The tying run is walked in and the winning run scores on a HBP. Why bother playing the first 8 innings?

On the bright side of the humiliating loss....

Cody Reed pitched 6 strong innings. Did a nice job getting ahead early throwing a lot of first pitch strikes. He still got deep into the count on too many hitters throwing 100 pitches, but a much improved effort nonetheless. He pitched better his last outing after the poor first inning, so hopefully he'll continue the trend in a positive direction.

I see where Yorman Rodriguez has began his second rehab stint. With the way Scott Schebler continues to struggle against MLB pitching, I'd say Yorman might be getting an opportunity to show what he can do when he's ready.

September callups are right around the corner. Are they going to add Winker or wait..... again?

Schebler being anointed to a regular spot is still another condemnation of the dugout staff. He is not going to hit with that batting approach. That was pointed out last week by Brantley.

The Cardinals are a badly flawed team despite their rather extensive record of good luck, including last night. What the FUCK was going through Cingrani's head?

I think Yorman has worn out his welcome, to be honest. When exactly this year did he do any baseball activities that could help him?

Callups: It means Hoover (maybe) again, Lamb obviously and maybe another catcher. Peraza will be back. Maybe Amir Garrett and Waldrop or Selsky. Winker needs to get the call. Then again, the dugout staff ... and the front office.

The Reds have been patient with Yorman for $2.5 million reasons. His signing bonus may still be a record for a Venezuelan player. The investment the Reds made in him was more than the $2M signing bonus they payed Yonder Alonso the same year.

I'd agree a catcher would be a good September callup, but they don't have one on the 40 man. Pretty thin at the catcher position. They're either poor performers, or are too far away, or in some cases both.

Since they recently DFA'd Hoover, I'd be both surprised and disappointed to see him back up.

I could see Selsky, Waldrop, Peraza, and maybe Dilson Herrera. Yorman is automatic due to his roster status.

From a pitching perspective inning limits is probably the biggest factor in in who is going to be pitching as the season winds down. Do they want to stretch out Garrett and Stephenson? Or do they bring up guys like Tim Adleman and AJ Morris to eat up a few innings?

I forgot, but Alfredo Simon is on a rehab assignment also. Doesn't necessarily provide innings or quality, but someone apparently likes the guy or he'd been released by now.

The **ONLY** reason to bring Hoover back up is to hopefully show that he's fixed his problem and can be part of a trade. Not bloody likely given the reasons he was DFA in the first place. Same is true with Pasta Alfredo. Both of these guys need to be calling Tokyo for possible employment.

Has Yorman actually batted a baseball since March?

I thought young Wallach might get a look in September, wasn't aware he's not on the 40-man.

Adleman would be a nice surprise because he seems to "get it" about his limitations.

Cardinals were able to use Matt Bowman on two straight nights.
When asked why Lorenzen or Iglesias didn't pitch, Price said they were unavailable because they had pitched A WHOLE FUCKING INNING on Sunday.
When a team knows that 2 of your relievers are "UNAVAILABLE" it tends to make you wonder .. how in fuck does this fucking help the fucking Reds?

Yorman has 16 AB's this season rehabbing in Daytona. I think the rule is 20 days for a rehab assignment. So he'd have to be added prior to Sept. 1st or DFA.

Price hasn't been using Lorenzen or Iglesias on back to back days. I guess he would site their recent returns from injury as the reason. But you can't pitch out of the pen if you can't go back to back and even three days at times.

At some point they'll have to do it, but I guess with this year being a throw away season it's better to be safe than sorry in theory, but there's no guarantee they won't blow out their arm regardless.

It'd be a major set back moving forward to lose those two to career threatening injuries.

Another losing series in St Louis.

The Reds have loss the last two series after winning the first six series coming out of the break.

The road hasn't been kind to the Reds going 20-38 away while playing 3 under .500 at home.

It was a winnable series, to be sure. Same in Pittsburgh.

I'm (hesitantly) starting to think the Reds might not lose 100 games, and could do a few games better than last year. Maybe even pass the Brewers.

But every time I get all optimistic the Reds go into a long losing streak

It stands to reason that these young pitchers are going to get better if they have the talent, which apparently they do. The trick is to replace Bruce in the lineup and that hasn't happened. Schebler is Bruce the Worse.

I can see the Reds going at or near .450 to finish out.

To be honest, if they had played this well in May and June, they'd be around .500. Of course, that was not possible with the pitching they had.
