We once speculated on Feliz, Holland, Elvis, Cruz, Kinsler, Harrison, Colby and Hamilton. We even speculated that Beltre didn't just produce in contract years like some claimed. We speculated that Napoli would work out. Before that we speculated on guys like Young, Blalock, and Davis. Speculation is a major part of the game.
As was Brinson Edwards Alfaro etc

To me that was speculating on Hamels, Lucroy and company.

We certainly have to do a good job of speculating. We have done a lot better job in speculating on position player prospects than we have on pitching prospects and veterans of late.

Kershaw to me is absurd. I heard last night on MLB Whiparound that with Rich Hill having physical issues and not resigning Darvish that they would be interested in someone like Hamels. They were saying the Dodgers have been big at the trade deadline in adding the pieces they think they need.

I’d be wary about dealing with the dodgers again.

We got screwed last time.

I know Darvish didn’t work out for them, but at the time we traded a solid #2 ( could be an ace on some teams) for a guy who can hit, but can’t field very well and some low level prospects.

I was thinking the return should’ve been better. JD should’ve done a better job in drumming up interest from contenders.

Darvish was about to become a FA so we had little choice so how was JD to do better. Calhoun or nothing if I recall correctly.

Once all three of those guys are up no one will miss DeShields.

You're way underselling the value which DDJ brings to the offense IMO. Every team needs a guy which ignites the offense, and DeShields has certainly done his best to make him our guy in this scenario.

Agree. His reward on offense off sets any risk on defense.

By the same token, I think you are way underselling what those other guys are capable of. Time will tell.

You might be right, but by no means am I demeaning anyone.

But it is very, very hard to find a catalyst like DeShields. There isn't that many, total, in the entire game, much less within our system.

It's gonna be interesting to see who falls where, in the pecking system, over this season, and at all levels.

What was Haniger thinking? Got us completely out of the inning, since Minor came back to get 2 Ks.

Joey needs to hit better than ,200.

Hard to argue with.

I keep hearing Rob Deer, Dave Kingman type comparisons to Gallo, and frankly, that doesn't wash for me at all. He/Rangers/us should all expect better than this IMO. Adam Dunn I can accept. But not those other two guys.

Must admit, I've seen Joey taking some pitches this season which he'd swung at, at this same stage last season. I honestly think - perhaps it's hope - that he is a pretty good student of the game and this .205 stuff ain't what he had in mind either.
