The rain kind of dwindled down to nothing around 12:30. Then not much else happened. I am not sure if the field would have been too soggy to play but other than that I think they could have gotten the game in. But we needed some days off.

Even without swings, Yu Darvish was pretty special in throwing session Sunday | SportsDay

"It was really good," Brocail said. "The breaking ball was crisp. The slider was unbelievable. The fastball was good and hard with both two- and four-seamers. He threw strikes in a lot of good areas. As we measured it, there were a lot of 0-2 and 1-2 counts."

In all Darvish made 101 throws off the mound with 30 warmups, seven before each "inning" and the 50 pitches. He will throw a similar session Thursday on the field, during which hitters will be permitted to swing.

After that: A rehab start for Double-A Frisco on April 26, provided there are no setbacks. He would likely make a three-inning start at Frisco. If he just builds up to five innings, it's conceivable he could start as few as three times in the minors and be back by May 11. If he throws four times in the minors, a May 16 return might be more reasonable.

Excellent report. Should give the team a big lift to have him doing so well and on his way back in the rotation.

Sounds like Brocail can't help but be optimistic. And it also sounds like Darvish is gonna be here much sooner than I thought he would be.

Great for him and us.

Just wanted to point out that Gallo is striking out at a career low 22% rate and is sporting a career high of .70 BB/K ratio. Obviously we're talking about a super small sample size, but it's promising nonetheless.

Neither fangraphs nor PECOTA seem to like the Rangers much ever for some reason.

Actually had a putz on the main MLB board tell me Texas should just deal him for whatever we can get. Just went on and on about his K rate.

Rangers' Yu Darvish: On track for rehab assignment beginning next week
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yu Darvish (elbow) is on track to begin a rehab assignment early next week, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Darvish tossed his second live batting practice session Sunday and will throw another such session Thursday before the Texas Rangers determine a rehab schedule for their ace, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery. After being sidelined for a full calendar year following the procedure, Darvish figures to see his workload increased slowly during his rehab, so it wouldn't be surprising if he didn't rejoin the Rangers rotation until the second half of May.

Rangers' Josh Hamilton: Reports to extended spring training Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Josh Hamilton (knee) will head to extended spring training Friday to begin playing games, initially as the DH, before a minor-league rehab assignment according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com.

Texas wants Hamilton to be able to play five innings in the field in extended spring before starting a formal rehab assignment. He could be back slightly before the current May 15 projection given that schedule, though a lot will be determined once he starts playing.

Rangers' Nomar Mazara: Showing he's not a prospect anymore
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Nomar Mazara went 3-for-4 with a walk, RBI and two runs in Saturday's win over the Orioles.

Mazara has made the most of his first week in the majors after being called up when Shin-Soo Choo went on the DL. Through seven games, the 20-year-old is hitting .444 (12-for-27) with a home run, two walks, five RBI and five runs. The outfielder is showing exactly why he's been considered the top prospect in the Texas Rangers organization.

He's cut his K-rate around 3-4% every year and so far this season has cut it about 10% more down to around 8-9%

His bat will always play well if he can keep that up. His swing seems to find the ball and take it where it's supposed to go.

I think as he grows and gets stronger you'll see a lot of oppo homers from him.

That would be a nice development. And it would play well in lot of parks, but damn ours is tough for lefties to go oppo.

Wonder why someone would be in favor of getting rid of a guy who won't be 23 until after the season, and has shown growth at every level. At least to date he has.

And this K rate is another sign of his ability to listen/learn and apply. Terrific sign.

I'm not as high as some of ya on Gallo. But to insinuate he's worth "whatever you can get for him" is ridiculous.

If he can limit his problems to about one strike out a game dude will be an All Star.
