I had a sick feeling that the guy would pitch well enough to stay on the roster, so there's hope even in defeat. If he looks bad enough, we can keep Hoover and dismiss this bag of ....

Not sure why Crusty sees it necessary to even run him out there in close games.

The guy who always beats the Reds is Darwin Barney.
It also helps when the pitcher makes no effort to look back a baserunner.

I second the notion. Not sure why Dusty would essentially concede game 2 of the series by sending Parra out there for 2 innings.

I agree why the hell would Dusty let this guy pitch 2 innings in a close game. I do realize that we were doomed from the beginning to lose this game. But we did have a chance until Parra came in

Had to rest the pen. Had no choice but to leave him out there for another inning.I think he was squeezed by the homeplate umpire.

I agree on the bullpen issue and that was mentioned very early on by the Reds radio team. He's on the roster and one would assume he can get people out. Basically, he did that. So it might be that one or two pitches beat him. As a relief pitcher, not much you can do to account for that.

More than that, I am annoyed at how the Reds didn't get any baserunners.

Oh well, even the Marlins win a game or two.

Sometimes the desisions you make aren't fully understood until you get downstream a bit. What if Chapman had started the game and 2 hit the Cubs ? Broxton would have been pitching a different inning instead of icing his hand. What happens if you advance a runner or two and don't play 13 innings every few days ? If Mike Gonzalez is offered 500K more than Parra, he's a Red and Parra isn't. If Ludwick isn't offered $12 mil, there might be more cash to keep Choo and Robinson might be the 2 hitter. If Davey Johnson was hired after the disappointing 2011 season, Dusty might be a Marlin.

You just never know. At some point, the Reds need to make Dusty grow the crops they need to sell, instead if always planting what Dusty likes to eat. This team has plenty of talent on the roster, but it is limited by ill fitting roles and fundamental execution. Jocketty signs the players and Dusty is supposed to use them to best advantage, but sometimes it appears they don't talk enough, or agree. It's Jocketty's job to insure his manager is getting desired results, or find one that can. It's hard to fire a guy that won 97 games, unless your sure you could do better with someone else. He obviously isn't, yet.

All in all, we might just need to be the sensible baseball fans that we claim we are ... and allow the first 100 games or so to play out. No pennant was won in March or April but a lot of them were lost in March or April. Agreed, we don't know for sure which cause/effect will matter in game 101. I really like this Reds team and maybe I am a bit impatient for a winner ... that rarely happens on every 1-1 count, though pennants are often won on a 1-1 count. Just don't know which of them it was.

If Bruce had not struck out twice with runners in scoring position we would not be talking about this issue. Our hitting or lack of contact is still the biggest issue on this club

Yep. Hard to blame pitching with 2 runs on the board...

It's odd but if you score a few runs early, it puts the other team in a hole in a lot of ways. Can't go through the lineup twice with a couple of tweener singles to show for it. Choo has been reaching base at a record pace and nobody else seems to notice.

Agreed. Seems to be a lack of offensive urgency here... Odd, there are some movies I still enjoy watching for the 15th time, although I never expect them to end differently... I guess because I know it doesn't work like that, and I'm satisfied with the ending as is.

Think Dusty hasn't seen the movie starring Zack Cozart in the 2 hole before, or he just is satisfied with the same old result ?

Marshall is a legitimate relief pitcher. I have no idea what Parra is supposed to be.
