Vogt walks and now there are two on with one out. Once again, this is a set-up for a nail-in-the coffin side for the A's.

Now Diekman serves up another single and the bases are loaded.

Diekman gets us out of the inning by striking out Gomes and we have three outs to try win this one. I haven't seen anything tonight that would suggest this team really wants to win this one.

With the Sizemore out, we are done and are well on the way to 90 losses. Number 84 tonight. On we go to game two tomorrow.

Game 2 in Oakland today. I'm glad to see Revere, Franco, Ruf, Asche, and Galvis getting another shot at playing together. I'll be mostly watching the Penn State game and checking the Phils progress.

I was watching some of the game on the big screen and the announcers were bemoaning the facts about the Phillies. They were stating that the Phillies have a $127 million already wrapped up in contracts for next year with Howard, Lee, and Hamels holding the najority of the cash. The Phillies currently have the third highest payroll behind the Dodgers (1) and Yankees (2) with one of the worst records in baseball.

The announcers went on a ripping rant of the FO's handling of this trainwreck. No names were mentioned but they stated that they found it difficult to understand how the FO could keep two aging players (Lee and Howard) who are not that productive, especially Lee, when the club is loaded with aging vets at the detriment to the young guts already on the roster. The Phillies already have more money tied up for next year than most baseball franchises. At this point the announcers were laughing.

The announcers were then smirking at this conundrum and just felt awful for the fans who have to continue to tolerate an approach they came short of calling completely stupid and outdated. I thought, geez, everyone else knows all of this except that braindead FO of which we know who is to shoulder the majority of the blame!!

This whole thing is pathetic beyond belief. It is bad enough that we have endure this crap let alone have to watch being the laughingstock of everyone associated with baseball.

Time for another catcher. That dude got hit in the face and neck where there is no protection.

Utley beats the throw at first on the juggle by Sogard. He's safe.

Perfect stealing technique by Utley and of course Howard strikes out as usual.

If Howard is so all-fired important to play first base, what the hell is Franco playing first? Just sit Howard and play Ruf at first base damn it!!

Williams has a nine-pitch side as he continues to roll. Since he's signed with the Phillies, Williams has looked pretty darn good.

Nice rant, retro. :agree:And it will be hard to correct this. But they'd better get started this winter.

Asche is on second. It would be nice if somebody would get him home.
