Just a reminder to all the Flyers players who read SportsHoopla - the game starts at 7:00 PM central, not 9:20 when there'll be less than ten minutes to play.

Seriously, let's wreck these guys.

It's sort of laughable to call a team we've played an average of once every calender year for as long as I can remember a rival.

Well, not every Wednesday night game on NBCSN is going to be a true rivalry, so they have to put a game on, but they figure that two big cities, two good and popular teams will suffice - it's pretty difficult to put a rivalry game on every Wednesday, the way the schedule works nowadays

Still, no excuses here. The Wings are without both Datsyuk and Zetterberg. They still have Alfredsson, Franzen and Kronwall, but not much else offensively other than maybe Helm.

Hey, let's keep all game time reporting in the only zone that matters ..... Eastern :thumb:

Score please

The good news: Howard has been average at best this season, especially at home (.911 sv% & 2 wins) and in the evenings (.908 sv%).

The bad news: He shut out the Isles in his last game and one of his two home wins was a 5-2 decision over us on the evening of October 12th.

I still think we'd much rather face Howard than "The Monster."

So other than the 1997 SCF, why is this a rivalry? Might as well have the Panthers & Coyotes play on Rivalry Night as well.

It's a complete joke. There are three games tonight and this is the one that least resembles a rivalry. The Coyotes and Flames are now in the same division while the Canadiens and Devils have at least been playing each other several times annually for years, plus their game is the second of a home and home.

We played two games in Detroit across the last four seasons entering this season and now we'll have played two in under two months. The only reason they've picked Detroit and Philly boils down to money.

Why do people care that it's not a rivalry? It's still going to be a good game - if it's a good game, then you should watch - if you don't like that they're televising a game that isn't a rivalry, don't watch

I don't get why it's a big deal

Because Wednesday is Rivalry Night on the NBCSports channel thingamabob, and the only other two games tonight are Coyotes/Flames and Habs/Devils, aka Game Nobody in America Will Watch and Game Very Few People in America Will Watch, respectively.

Also, I don't even consider the 1997 SCF a rivalry starter. They beat the shit out of us in four, and we've never saw them again in the playoffs. That's not a rivalry, that's a drive by. Detroit/Pitt is more of a rivalry because they were back-to-back Finals with six and seven games. Even then it's hard to get and maintain a cross-conference rivalry - you don't see the other team very often, and when you do it's rarely with a playoff spot or seeding on the line. The best rivalries are going to be back and forth against the teams you play the most, and in this format, that's going to be in the division. It's why I'm glad we kept the Pens and Rangers and Devils with the Flyers - because it's just so damn fun to hate them.

You do realize too that the NHL can't schedule an actual rivalry game every Wednesday? Especially with the way the schedules work out? Just enjoy the fact that it's a good game

Only because it's specifically named RIVALRY NIGHT...lol

I'd be watching the game regardless of the channel or the premise, but this is one matchup that nobody can argue is a rivalry of any sort.
