NJ Devils: Sweden West
First, every Devils fan is hoping that they listen to the leagues demands for selfish reasons. However, this is something that the NHLPA should also strategically want to agree with.
It's everyone's understanding that, in the next CBA, some of the major components is going to be reworking the cap, these long term deals, the revenue sharing, escrow payments, olympics, etc. Both sides are going to have to play a bit of give and take, and seeing as this is an issue the league feels VERY strongly about the PA should definitely "give" on this one.
First, the PA represents 700 players. They would all be affected by a reduction in the cap for instance. These long term mega deals would only affect a minuscule percentage of the players in the league.
Finally, I'm sure that everyone agrees that deals like the Kovy one are not really appropriate, although technically legal, under the cba. The Devils and rest of the players should hope the PA gives in.
