Probably not going to matter too much, but with this stuff in the Clippers' heads, maybe the Ws have another 5-10% chance to win the series?

Can you imagine if the Clips somehow win it all, and then Sterling goes up there to hoist the trophy in front of everyone?

Yeah, the NBA won't let that happen. The refs would be all over the Clipps if they came close.

I'm gonna say this is 40/60 now with clips at 60. I think clips are still favorites. Going to be interesting how these games play out

Yeah that maybe sounds right. I feel bad for the Clippers players having this in their heads but I guess it's payback for losing Bogut...Clipps had a huge break with him out, now it's more even.

Still the Clippers' series to lose.

I (along with every basketball fan in the country) have been wondering how it plays out with Sterling. I don't see how he isn't forced to sell the team. Don't cry for that prick though, he'll get close to $1 billion considering how much the Bucks went for.

Nothing will happen to Sterling. The Clippers best player - Griffin - is of mixed race (more than one race). How is that "racist"? Then there is the news Magic Johnson supposedly lining up to buy the Clips. This smells bad. Magic would be enemy #1 with the Lakers in Laker land. Lakers need all the help they can get to rebuild after their disaster of a season, and could use all the help they can get at this point. So Lakers' owner Buss has to be angry with Magic now... one of his former players going with the cross town rivals? The NBA owners are not going to "punish" Sterling under the circumstances... 'cause the same could happen to them in the future.

Tons of wrong in this post.

Magic won't buy them but Sterling is going to end up in a room with the other 29 owners and they are going to say 'Don, this is bad for business. This is bad for the rest of us. You're out, Take your billion and go'.

Will any player go there as a free agent from now on? Will any draftee stay after they are allowed to leave?

The only caveat to my point is it was kind of an open secret the guy was a total racist scumbag before this and players still played there, but this cuts to the heart of what the NBA is about. If he had ragged on another group like say Asians or gays, he'd have gotten plenty of flak and been fined or suspended or whatever, but a year later it would just be one more thing this asshole said once. But the NBA is at its heart a 'black' sport, and this guy has crossed the line now.

History of racist quotes

Not part of the original released recording shows how despicable of a man he is.

There's no way he can stay as an owner. Even if the owners don't force his hand... No free agent will sign after this. Ticket sales and ad dollars will force him out.

You all know Sterling will find a way, the cheapskate he is. He can always follow the Spurs/Popovich model of importing non-American Euro-league players to populate the Clippers, to get around "having to have US B-ballers" on the team. Euro players open their mouths, deport them back. Nothing different from corporate America outsourcing and hiring HB-1 visas to work for them. The NBA is a global entity per David Stern. The owners know already that they don't have to have US-born players on their teams. Why do you think Larry Johnson now is calling for an All-Black basketball league with All-Black ownership?

Are you serious? Because there's a few Euros in the league the Clippers can now have an all Euro team? In the real world 2014? You know that's not what's going to happen. Not even getting into why would a Euro want to play for that guy now...that team would suck hard every year like the Clippers used to.

Also, most owners, while white, aren't racist scumbags. So LJ's idea is dumb too.

Sterling has precedent on his side. San Antonio under Popovich won how many NBA championships with imported foreign-born players (Duncan, Genobli, Parker) their top 3 players, with US-born scrubs surrounding them? Houston won their NBA championships with Olajuwon, a Nigerian, their #1 player with US-born supporting cast. Dallas won the NBA championship with Nowitzki, a German, their #1 player, plus US-born supporting cast. And ALL that was in the great Deep South redneck state of Texas. So the NBA owners already know that they DO NOT have to rely on US-born players, African-Americans per se, as their top players to market their teams and win it all. Having said that, the NBA is a GLOBAL entity now, per David Stern. The bargaining power of US-born players have been diminished with all the foreign-born players in the NBA now. If Larry Johnson wants to pout about starting an All-Black B-Ball league with All-Black ownership, he can certainly try.

Dude, you are serious, wow.

Almost all of those foreign players are BLACK (Hakeem, Parker, Duncan)....are they gonna be playing there?

You're just playing a videogame here. In the real world, it ain't happening. In the real world 2014, the other owners are gonna force him out.

MSG has it correct. Dude is 82, he'll be forced out by the other owners and the lack of licensing deals from sponsors. He bought the team for $12MM and he'll sell for close to $1BB....he won't have a hard time moving on. The league won't officially take the team from him (they legally couldn't anyway) but they will encourage him to sell. He'll sell. And some Euro/Russian/Asian billionaire will have a new toy.

'Racist' NBA owner Donald Sterling donated $135k to Museum of Tolerance | Mail Online

Sterling donated heavily to the Museum of Tolerance, United ***** College Fund and Black Business Association -- Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling spent $135,000 on charities that work on issues surrounding African Americans and other minority groups -- standing inn sharp contrast with his alleged blatant racism. In what could be either irony or political inoculation, LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling paid out $135,000 between 2009 and 2012 to charities whose focus involves African-American issues.

This is political inoculation, and completely unsurprising.

The ironic part in all this is the girlfriend who outed him being half black, half hispanic.

He loses $135k every time he pulls lint out of his pocket. Dude is worth $10BB...that's like you or I cutting a check to the NAACP for $20.

Evidently, Sterling is one bundle of contradictions. As a philanthropist, he's totally down for the cause when it comes to the empowerment of African Americans. He dates a gal of mixed ethnicity, but he evidently isn't comfortable with her hanging with the brothers in public. On top of that, his apparent Mandingo complex doesn't manifest itself when it comes to the actual act ("fuck them if you want") but only the public perception of such.

Not even this rich asshole can afford the amount of analysis necessary to cure what ails him.
