2 HRs, 3 RBIs, 3 runs scored and he played some great defense tonight as well.

Braves vs Phillies round 2 could be something.

Gotta beat WC2 first. But man that is no easy reward for the Braves season if they get you all.
Cubs have been playing really good baseball. They may not even see the Braves. Drop one home game and it’s a really tough task.

Yeah with the best of 3 itll be more random But you get all 3 at home and tbh I think Cubs are pretenders. Your lineup is so much better and Steele is having a good year but hes not battle tested.

Also, my slight worries about Phillies rotation is nothing compared to Cubbies. Who the hell do they start after Steele if Stroman doesnt return.

I thought Game 3 was at the lower seeded team no?

Nope. For the new wilcard its 3 straight days all at the higher seeded team so homefield plays big factor in it.

Its why Twins fans still have false hope, we are competent at home and will trick ourselves into winning games against the Astros

All season long Nola and the long ball. He gave up last season’s HR total 2 starts ago. He’s been a shadow of himself. And it always seems to be 0-2 or 1-2 with him leaving a ball out over the plate.

I have no idea how the Phillies are even a factor this year. If you stack up guys who they are getting lesser production than expected it looks like an All Star roster:
Schwarber hitting .185
Turner hitting .245
Realmuto hitting .245
Harper reduced season off Tommy John, power numbers way down.
Nola has been a shell of himself
Wheeler has been inconsistent
Seranthony Dominguez has been ineffective and hurt
Alvarado has been banged up
And before the season even started they lost Rhys Hoskins at 1B and their only reliable RH bat with pop.

Last night shows why I’m irate with Trea Turner. Athletes struggle from time to time. Slumps in baseball are a very real thing. Adjusting to a new club and a new city is real. Harper and Castellanos had tough transitions year 1 in Philly. What’s unacceptable is him purposefully getting thrown out on Monday night because he was selfish and frustrated. His replacement comes up in a big spot in a tight game and fails in that spot. The game ain’t over until there’s 27 outs. Fuck Trea Turner.

This is the new song for Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long.

Fuck
Trea
Turner

Last year:
BA .298 OBP: .343 SLG: .466 OPS: .809
This year:
BA .237 OBP: .291 SLG: .370 OPS : .662

Talk around here is that he’s getting a Participation Trophy tonight. Somebody went viral with this idea that they should give Turner a standing ovation for his first AB instead of booing him.

It may actually happen. Then he whiffs on a non competitive pitch and the booing will commence haha.

Nola is an enigma. I don’t trust handing him the ball in the playoffs. Some of his numbers are on point with where he’s always been. He has really been hurt by the long ball this year. Both of these pitchers are two of the league leaders in HRs given up.

If there is one silver lining, Nola and the Phillies couldn’t agree on an extension this winter. I hope they move on.
Some freezing cold takes from me in this thread haha.

Yep. Part of me is like…they can’t stay this hot. The other part of me says they’ve been finding ways to win for 3 months straight now after a meh April/May. Eery how similar last year is to this year.

Harper's raised his OPS from .793 on August 15th to .905 in a 15 day span.

He's hitting .361/.452/.784 with 9 doubles, 1 triple and 10 homers, 23 runs, 24 RBIs this month.

Harper is the type of guy that when he gets hot he can carry a team.

This was the Turner they thought they were signing. But I’ve gotta be honest, I haven’t been impressed with his glove. He’s fast so he has plus range getting to balls but personally, I think Stott is the better fielder.

I can never be completely pleased with my ball club though. The pen has been great this year but ever since the All Star game they’ve been leaking oil.

Turner's never really struck me as anything more than an average defender (maybe slightly above average) and most metrics seem to reflect that (career -4 UZR, 13 OAA, 10 RAA, 4 DRS). He's good enough where he won't kill you and it allows his bat/baserunning to make him one of the best shortstops in the game.

worth noting Turner still has the lowest BABIP of his career (.308, he's got a career BABIP of .339). He has always outperformed his xSLG and xBA metrics and it's safe to say his speed plays a role in that.

The Braves are awesome. For that matter, so are the Dodgers. But there are no easy outs in the NL either. The Cubs and Diamondbacks are starting to play some really good consistent baseball. I’m not projecting the Phillies to roll into a series with the Braves. Anything can happen in a 3-5-7 game series. The thing that I like is a documented real home field advantage that many parks don’t have. The fan base gets geeked up for October baseball and they’re already in that form. I’m watching the game yesterday and they drew 36 k for a random 1pm start in late August after kids have gone back to school. It’s just different in Philly. Yesterday, the one that struck me was that whole crowd reacting to a 1-2 pitch and a tough check swing take to make it 2-2. When you have a whole crowd dialed in like that to a baseball game, it makes life really tough on the opponent. The biggest reason Turner is in Philly and not elsewhere despite being the top name on that SS list last winter is because of the show we fans put on last year during that playoff run.
