I recently just started smoking my own ribs and stuff. I'm actually pretty good at it, not that it's exactly hard. I've been using some grillmate pork rub for my rub, and honestly I like it. I wanted to start out with store bought rub until I got my cooking down right, limit the variables and all that. I would keep using the rub, but it contains this silicon crap that I do not want to eat at all to keep it from clumping or something.

Right now I'm looking at this recipe, unless someone knows one better.

A Carolina BBQ Rub - Recipe

A few notes:

I do not like hot. I like spicy, but I do not like hot - AT ALL. I like to taste my food without punishing my mouth. I don't even eat jalapenos.

And I'm not that big a fan of sweet either. A little bit is ok, but I don't want it to be overpowering.

Need it before the this weekend!

I like dry rubs on my ribs sometimes, but my preference is nothing at all.
Just slow smoke until the meat falls off the bone.

To me, there's nothing better than that.

JB's rub recipe...v'been saving this for a long time

JB is an Oklahoma fan I met at CBS...the guy is grilling gold...I tried this a year ago and can still taste it...awesome!

Today we'll start with a base Memphis dry rub.

1/4 cup of paprika
1 tbls of fresh cracked pepper
1 tbls of onion powder
1 tbls of salt
2 tsp of cayenne

What I do is multiply this recipe by 10 and store in an air tight container. This way the seasoning blends together and I only have to add a couple things to get a different taste.

From there I'll kick it up and we'll do an asian finish that will blow your mind. Add the following ingredients to the base Memphis rub:

3 tsp of dry mustard
1 tbls of dry basil
1 tbls of terregon
2 tsp of chilli powder
2 tbls of light brown sugar

Rinse and pat your ribs dry, apply the rub generously and let sit for an hour or two. This rub is wonderful by itself alone but if you want to make these special I'll give you the secret sauce:

2/3 cups of white vinegar
8 tbls of brown sugar
2 tbls of ketchup
2 tsp of soy sauce
4 tsp of cornstarch
8 tsp of water

Add vinegar, sugar, ketchup, and soy sauce in a sauce pan and bring to a boil. In a cup mix the cornstarch and water together before adding it to the sauce pan. Add in the cornstarch and water then reduce heat and stir to thicken. In the final 30 minutes of cooking the ribs in which ever way you see fit, apply half of the sauce made and finish cooking. After cutting the ribs to serve drizzle with the remaining sauce.

Thanks, I'll give it a try next weekend. Went ahead and bought some more store bought rub for this weekend.

I'll post mine later, have to run right now. Probably tonight, but it is a good pork rub that goes great for ribs or shoulders. Makes a nice bark, just a little heat, and a nice amount of salt

Brown Sugar
Black Pepper
Granulated Garlic
Onion Powder
Kosher Salt
Paprika
Crushed Red Pepper

All of the ingredients you need. Use amounts to your liking. The brown sugar helps make a great bark on the meat being used. I do not give actual amounts to use because each person's likes are different. Use these ingredients and you will not go wrong.

Here's a basic rub that I use on just about everything. I got it for ribs, but found out it is good on pork and chicken as well.

1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup sweet paprika (I use the regular ol stuff)
3 tablespoons black pepper
3 tablespoons coarse salt
1 tablespoon hickory smoked salt or more coarse salt
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons celery seeds
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and stir to mix.

This will make about 1 cup of rub and will keep for around 6 months.

YOU must not use much rub if 1 cup will last 6 months. Lather those bitches up.

Oh and just to poke fun. Ribs and Pork are the SAME THING!

I meant pork chops. :L and it never last 6 months, that's just what the shelf life is, if anyone was interested. But 1 cup will last me several grilling sessions.

It is ok. Not going to hold it against you. Just found it funny.

I make 3 big batches of mine at the beginning of the season.

1 is friendly to everyone, 1 is medium for those who like a little kick, and the last is for me and anyone else that loves to sweat 20 lbs of while eating.

Nice recipes btw, going to try one next week on a couple racks.

Isn't it interesting that you use kosher salt on a rub used primarily for pork.

What, no cinnamon in any of these pork rubs?

I usually throw a combination of the following

Brown Sugar
Paprika
Salt
Cracked Black Pepper
Cayenne pepper
cinnamon
seasoned salt
onion powder
garlic powder
mustard

Sometimes I'll through in coffee.

Also, yes I know this is late, but oh well.
