I think Eddie's going to be good today. Hit 95 on the high fastball to strike out Werth, that's a good sign.

Go Bucs!

This Treinen character has some serious heat.

Cutch scorched that, but right into Treinen's glove. Nice reactions on his part.

Yessir. And it's not just heat, it's sinking heat. For a guy that throws in the high-90's, he doesnt strike out too many guys but he does get a lot of ground balls. Very interesting prospect.

Volquez worked out of a bit of an Alvarez-induced jam there. Good job on his part.

And look, a Nate McLouth sighting in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, lots of movement on that sucker. What do you know about his secondary stuff? If it's just average, or if he doesn't use it much, that could explain the low strikeouts.

A last-minute adjustment by Span robs Pedro of extra-bases. He got a decent bit of that ball.

Yup you're probably right. Pitching coach wants him to throw about 70% sinkers. In his 1st start against the Dodgers, it was all fastballs/breaking balls. I believe he just threw his first changeup tonight.

The story was the same with Cole last year. Worked primarily with a fastball and got a lot of ground balls but not many strikeouts when he first came up. Worked in the curve as the season went on and started to get the strikeouts.

That very easily could have been called a catch. In the pocket, very secure for two steps, through the start of the slide, and then it popped out when the glove hit the ground.

I wonder how long Josh Harrison can keep up what he's been doing. He's been great in every facet of the game lately. He made another unreal catch tonight to go along with being on base three times again tonight.

Until Polanco's up, as far as I'm concerned, he is our right fielder.

harrison is turning out to be a great utility player.
play him in right until polanco is up.

when polanco is here, send down snider and tabata, if they clear, great, if not, they have gotten their chance.
bring up dickerson. let him be the 4th outfielder.
harrison will be super sub IF and 5th outfielder. he can also catch in an extra inning game and pitch an inning.

also, volquez pitched a good game. 6 innings and 1 run.
only 2 walks. his BB rate continues to be good.

he has flashes of turning it around this year. not bad for a #5 if he can continue a positive trend.

now to get liriano, morton and cumpton/locke on the ball.

Agreed, no sense in playing Snider or Tabata other than spot duty, can't take a guy with an .850 OPS out of the lineup.

As for Volquez, just have to get those HR's down. Of course, that's pretty much true for the entire team.

Morton looks unhittable in the zone tonight, but his control is all over the place.

Good to have Russell Martin back!

And watching Ike Davis run is comical.

Morton seems to be getting his command in hand. Pitching well, too.

I like Davis batting up in the order a bit. He's an on-base machine since coming over from the Mets.
