Most Disappointing Sequel or Series

Is any sequel or series a bigger disappointment than Matrix?

I'd almost go so far as to say that the Star Wars prequels are actually better.

Highlander II: The Quickening, et al, could beat the Matrix sequels but the limited success of Highlander lessens the disappointment, I think.

You cant really count Highlander 2, the creators abandoned the movie before it was release (Kinda like Natural Born killers), and it been called the Renegade Version ever since I can remember.

They're completely different kinds of movies. Not really comparable IMO. Same character, but the settings were different. Pitch Black dealt with more realism in terms of characters. Chronicles was basically Conan in space.

The Timeline though was 100% accurate, all the on screen characters that survived the first movie were in the second movie (though I cant remember if those Muslim kids died in the 1st movie).

If following the plot on Pitch Black was too difficult for you, I can see why you liked Riddick more.
