Has anyone ever had it? I'm watching "Moonshiners" and wondering how many people have ever even had the stuff.

A guy makes it about 10 miles from my home here in NC. They bust him every other month but he keeps on making it. I've had several jars of shine. A buddy who I used to camp with from Georgia brought some cherry laced shine once that was fantastic. But if you want a legit brand just go to the liquor store and get Junior Johnson(The race car guy) Midnight Moon. The apple pie is awesome!

Bottled @ 100 proof, the blackberry works for me. 80 proof by the time ya buy it tho.

Apple pie is only 70 proof @ the point of sale. Tasty tho. About 4 bucks a cocktail Johnson's shine is spending.

Apple moonshine sounds interesting. Is the apple flavor even noticeable at such a high alcohol content?

Tastes just like an apple pie with a kick. They have all sorts of flavors. It's worth the try. I have some right now for Christmas. WARNING, it may be addictive.

Answer is yes depending on what flavor ya buy. Blackberry, yes there are berries added for flavor. and damn the space they take up too!:laugh3:

Lol, I hear ya. That's a lot of alcohol displaced! I kid but I get what you're saying.

I've tried it a few times, not really too difficult to get around here. And apple pie moonshine is pretty good, think you'd like it.

Anytime I think of moonshine, I think about Popcorn Sutton.

I absolutely love moonshine! It became our weekend staple in college. We used to order "Apple pie" from a guy that you would be convinced tastes like something grandma made fresh out of the oven. He would also make a "cherry pie" which ultimately tasted way too much like maraschino cherry juice. The best part was the cherries that were left over after you finished the booze. It would be enough to get you bombed straight through the weekend. I never asked him the proof of his liquor but I would suspect that it was in excess of 160! Good times!

Does anyone know the name of Tim's moonshine from the show? I want to try and find a bottle.

I will probably try both flavors. 160 proof is crazy!

Not crazy. True moonshine is over 100 proof. Anything less and your guy is cutting it because you're a pussy or he's cheating you. The stuff you buy in stores is basically schnapps with a moonshine name.

I've been 'around' it all my life growing up in Franklin County, VA which is known as the Moonshine Capital of the World for good reason. The store bought stuff isn't bad, but not as good as you can get from a reputable seller. You'd be hard pressed to find someone from FC that didn't have a few jars in their house or at least knew how to find some.

It's always interesting letting someone whose never tried it have a nip as they have a preconceived idea about its 'mythology'. It's not that bad, but if they're used to regular whiskey that's been aged, it can be a little harsh. Mixing with fruit and sugar can really smooth it out and was what I always had available for the girls at parties back in college. The straight stuff was for me or for those that wanted to try it for the first time.

Great for a sore throat along with some honey too!
