I think the Portland area could and would support baseball.

The Mariners aren't trying to win. They took Connie Mack's philosophy of turning a profit > a championship.

Maybe the results haven't been what the Mariners had hoped for, but if the Mariners weren't trying to win, Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz wouldn't be Mariners.

Disagree completely, Cano was only signed because the GM needed to make a splash to keep his job. If they were trying to win they would have spent money on the teams weakness not their strength. I can understand making a profit is a priority for an ownership group but eventually trying to win a title should be part of the plan.

Personally, I think if Portland wants professional baseball, they should build a Triple-A park and lure a Triple-A team.
