Watched a bit of the Vikhlyantseva vs Venus. 7th game of first set was a marathon with advantage flip flopping with deuce. I think the sisters era is almost over as there are younger, just as big and tall and hard hitting women players with more stamina, fitness and energy ready to claim their first victories over them. Women’s tennis is ridiculous with virtually no use of the grey matter. Just hit as hard as you can, grunt loudly, keep side to side baseline rally and see who makes the first error. This game needed Hingis and Henin real bad. It’s plain pathetic!!

Well, at least Wozniacki and Kerber don't hit as hard as they can.

They do move side to side a lot, though.

Actually checked the score now and Venus came back to win the first set 7-5. I think she was trailing 2-5. Long matches are not a good idea for her. She should try close it in two.

Isner won a match!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's also playing doubles too.

Hey, why didn't anyone tell me Sock and Isner beat the Bryan Brothers for the Indians Wells title?

Isner is pairing with Young this week for Miami.

See you in June

Nooo! As I've said before, I just like seeing him play. And he's a good clay court player. On par with Djokovic and Wawrinka for 2nd best.

I actually thought losing today would make him want to play a little more, so he doesn't go 3 months in between real matches.

I also can't 100% agree that "it worked pretty well". He did lose to Tommy Haas on grass in Stuttgart. And he had a nice Wimbledon draw.

I thought Madrid and FO, or Rome and FO were possibilities.

Or, who needs a warmup. He's won the AO this year without a warm up.

And does he even need to play grass tuneups? Just play the FO, then Wimbledon. Skip the grass tuneups.

AO, IW, Miami, FO, Wimbledon.

That makes light early half of the year, but still gets in the big events.

Here's his post from 2016.

I regret to announce that I have made the decision not to play in this year’s French Open. I have been making steady progress with my overall fitness, but I am still not 100% and feel I might be taking an unnecessary risk by playing in this event before I am really ready. This decision was not easy to make, but I took it to ensure I could play the remainder of the season and help to extend the rest of my career. I remain as motivated and excited as ever and my plan is to achieve the highest level of fitness before returning to the ATP World Tour for the upcoming grass court season. I am sorry for my fans in Paris but I very much look forward to returning to Roland Garros in 2017.

Should have just been straight forward and say he will no longer participate in clay court season for the rest of his career. He comes off as a phony

Or at the very least, at least said "I don't know how many more times I'll be back".

He gave that warning after winning the AO in 2017, that he might not come back every year. He did end up coming back in 2018, but I think the warning still applies for the AO.
