Longtime Bama Strength Coach to UGA

Not sure why Kirby would hire the best Strength coach in America to coach special teams but OK.

I will say I feel like Cochran has kinda gotten complacent and been on cruise control these last 4-5 years. Plus we have had a lot of unexplained preseason injuries during that time. Maybe a change of scenery will be good for him and Alabama.


Our #1 candidate is supposedly Aaron Fields at Oregon. Who is from Alabama and I think was on Alabama’s support staff and followed Mario.

Him and Kirby were best friends at Alabama and Cochran almost left when Kirby first got the UGA job. It’s a big loss for Bama, Cochran played as big a part as anyone in building Alabama’s dynasty. I don’t exactly understand Kirby hiring him a Special teams coach but it’s his program and not mine

• It's special teams, and Cochran is a master motivator, what STs is all about.
• He has spent more time with the players, motivating them, than any position coach.
• He has spent more time with recruits while visiting than anyone else. Maybe not in the living room, but he will likely excel there as well.
• He got offered on field position by Kiffen ... he wanted to move on and not be stuck in the S&C position at $595K.
• He and CKS are best friends, he almost came over when CKS came over, and Cochran's wife and CKS's wife are best friends.
• He and our S&C coach, Sinclair, are also best friends.
• It's also addition by subtraction ... this will be a big loss for Bama, IMO.

Cochran probably wanted a game day coaching job and Kirby probably found him a spot.

I hope it works out. Our special teams outside of actual kicking and punting left a lot to be desired

Not to be pedantic, but it's Feld and he is awesome. Came over with Kirby, and then went to Oregon with Cristobal. I can totally see him going to Bama. He, too, is a great motivator. Has to be Saban's first call. I follow him on Twitter ... really hated when he left. That would mitigate the damage quickly.

My thoughts exactly. Lots of injuries lately. Wonder is it was caused by over or under conditioning. Teams just did not seen to be as well prepared.

I just don't see this as that big a loss. Surprising? Yes, mostly because of the timing and the fact that UGA hired him for ST.

Cochran did a lot for the Bama program and was crucial in motivating players, that will be the loss from this.

Feld is from Birmingham, played at MissSt, and was the S&C coach at UNA, then volunteer at Bama, on staff at UGA. He has ties to the area, obviously.
