No stat is a tell-all. A HR with a runner at 1b is still 2 runs, may win the game, but doesn't add to RISP. The Cardinals of a couple seasons ago had a historical team RISP- it has a bearing, but I suspect most Series winners have normal -ish RISP stats.

I know this- most teams that hit under .240 (like last years Reds) for a BA usually don't score enough to win a lot. There are reasons they give awards to the batting champ, HR and Steal champs- and consider R,RBI, W-L, ERA, etc. in MVP and CY Young Awards. Those counting stats equate to w-l.

29 teams arent good enough, every year. To not put the best team on your roster on the field as close to every game as possible, should be an indication your going to lose more. Most of the Reds better half of their best starting lineup wasn't on the field enough last year. That wasn't the case in 2013, the team just sort of laid down, especially the last month against sub .500 teams. 2012 post season was a clusterfuck blown by horrible dugout management, and the players crippled ass attempt at overcoming that.

Timing is everything, and IMO, this teams best opportunity to win with previous rosters has been wasted. Any such opportunity in the near future needs it's star players on the field, and the dugout staff with their heads out of their asses. The front office needs to re-dedicate the club to the farm, because payroll won't allow do-overs for previous contract mistakes, acts of God, or bad medical care.

Latos gave a shit. Maybe too much to maintain control of his own performance. He also has a sore elbow and knee ge didnt have when he arrived. A team with talent but bo hardware, traded him for a couple rosin bag, so his ego is bruised too. BUT- Honesty without humility is usually most offensive to those who deny their own failures. The truth hurts more than a lie....and there are a few Reds pained over this-just saying.

If nothing else, this has caused current Reds to take public offense to Latos' accusations. That is never a bad thing. While they are defending each other they might want to look in the mirror. It may be true that Votto's absence is evidence the med staff didn't rush players back, but the team didnt pressure him to be in the dugout either, and he chose not to be for days at a time. That's bad for PR, chemistry, and leadership, regardless of who's idea it was. If a fan in the moon deck noticed that, so did teammates getting beat by scrubs. Why didnt Bruce pack it in too ? He played through boos Votto wasn't there to hear.

Losing shouldn't be fun even if it is easy. The real problem with chemistry is, it doesn't win a game, it's the result of winning. So, this team has good chemistry, but doesn't win. What does that say ? It tells me there needs to be a different priority in the clubhouse and on the field. Who has that experience ? Schumaker has played on a winner-but he's a scrub. Rolen and Arroyo are gone. Players always leave. You can't fold up every time a "leader" leaves.

The Manager has to lead, but he can't ride sheep-he needs horses...and they all need 4 healthy legs. They may need the whip to run though, cause walking is easier, doesnt hurt as much, but pays the same.
