If I remember what I heard correctly, the smart financial move would be to sign a 1 and 1 and then go back into FA next season.

But, it's Kawhi, so I could also see him not wanting to go through all of this again and just signing long term with someone.

Is that the best long term financial move, though. What if he gets hurt?

Was it a 1 and 1 or a 2 and 1? I think he needs 2 more years to trigger the big money. He wouldn't have to go through all of this again either way; he could just start with the shorter deal, then sign the extension when it comes up in a year or two.
