Last night happens

always 1 step forward, 10 steps back with this team............always

Did they make history by losing to same team with 3 different coaches in one season last night? that has to be a record

Just embarrassing, a team full of guards with no real point guard

Three games behind OKC...Lost three times to the pathetic SAC Kings. Typical Suns. Their season is now officially on the line in the next two games. They need to beat Portland and HAVE to beat OKC on Sunday. OKC will be playing the second of a back-to-back road trip after playing in Utah, half their team is hurt, etc. A real playoff team wins this game.

Even if the Suns defeat Oklahoma City on Sunday night, the deficit (now four games in the loss column) is probably too steep. The fourth quarter of the Portland game last night reminded me of Jason Kidd's Suns (post-Kevin Johnson), and I don't mean that in a good way. In Kidd's final season in Phoenix, the Suns ranked dead-last among the sixteen playoff teams in Offensive Rating (points scored per possession).

Eric Bledsoe is quite good at reaching the free throw line, averaging five and a half attempts per game in both of the last two seasons, but he is going to need to get better at it, especially at critical times. In the second quarter of Game Three of the 1997 Western Conference First Round versus Seattle, Kevin Johnson shot 1-4 from the field (0-1 on threes)—and scored 11 points by shooting 9-10 from the free throw line (plus 2 assists, 1 steal, and 0 turnovers). K.J. was a stellar passer and shooter—he ranked third in the NBA in assists per game and third in three-point field goal percentage that season—but he still averaged more free throw attempts per game that year than both Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson. Given that Bledsoe is neither a stellar passer nor a stellar shooter, free throw attempts are even more important for him, and in the fourth quarter of last night's game, you could see why.

By the way, Marcus Morris might possess more potential as a "closer" than anyone currently on the roster. He is the Suns' best shooter, and his combination of dribbling ability and height allow him to get his shot at virtually any time against virtually anyone. Phoenix might want to cultivate that option or at least explore it further.

Getting eliminated by losing to ATL by 27 and not eclipsing the 70-point mark was a nice touch.
