So what does he do to contribute to these wins?

2nd all-time in career YPA, 2nd all-time in career completion percentage, 5th all-time career QB rating

I’d call that contributing.

Id say 16-20 but closer to 16

Maybe even 14 or 15 depending on what you value most

I'd say 11-16, prob in the middle of that #. Maybe like 13'ish. Well I guess more like 11-12 now that Brady retired lol.

He's an okay QB but VERY limited in the playbook you can give him. SIMPLE throws with good schemes and throw the ball away if it's not there. That's it.

He's not good at innovating or reading a defense... and offers really no ground threat. I mean what was it a game this year (or last) where he had technically negative pass yards after a half? He had like 150 yards but it was like 160 YAC. That's Jimmy... simple, easy reliable throws...

When they were in that Dallas game I was like, "You got a great defense. Just make sure Jimmy hands the football off or throws only to Kittle). What do the 49ers do? Get creative and let Jimmy throw under pressure to the outside... and nearly gave the game away to Dallas.

He could be top 10, but he is lacking at the critical stat of availability. He has played 56% of the games since moving to the 9ers.

He's in the 16 to 20 range.
If he stayed healthy the year the defense was decimated by injuries. His win/loss record would be much worse.

Niners win with a Great defense & running game & low turnovers. So he does his part. But dont expect him to put the team on his back & make a great comeback. Just like his last superbowl. momentum changes & he turns into a pumpkin. hell even in this last game Defense did their part & Special teams made the difference. Not Jimmy G. he is just a bus driver of an awesome Bus.

To be fair, he has showed up in those situations from time to time and not folded. Week 18 to get into the playoffs is a case in point. The problem is those times have been far less then the times you mentioned.

I think Jimmy's ceiling might be 10-11. Maybe a spot or 2 higher. He will not ever be elite or near the top 5. One reason is the amount of great young QBs coming into the league but Jimmy also has to first and foremost, stay healthy. Something he has been unable to do so far. How good he is doesn't natter watching from the booth or sideline in civvies. He has some intangibles like leadership amd good rapport with his teammates. They would go through a wall for the guy and that is great. He will never consistently be a guy who goes out and lights up opposing teams. Now and then, yes, he will make all the right plays and win but it's not something he will be known for. That is all okay and all that really matters is winning games but winning those games often come down to limiting Jimmy's exposure. That speaks volumes and shows why Shanahan and Lynch did what they did last off season. They know in today's NFL, you need a QB that opposing teams have some fear of. Whether Lance can be that in the future is unknown but JimmyG doesn't really scare anybody.

His 2 playoff games:

16 of 25 for 172 yards, no TD's and an INT.

11 of 19 for 131 yards, no TD's and an INT.

Worst starting QB among the final 4. The defense and running game are the reason they are in the NFC title game.

true. but the same would be said about Trent Dilfer from time to time.
He is basically the new age Trent Dilfer.

One last thing.
If his own team thought he was top ten. (or even close to it)
They wouldnt have been looking to replace him. He would get a franchise QB contract.
He is a journeyman quality QB & thats all.
That would land him in the 16-20 range. (bad Journeymen would be worse)

QBs don’t single handily win games by themselves if they did then it would be a worthwhile stat.
Indeed, using wins to judge QBs would mean that QBs ( no matter how good they look or played) of non playoff teams couldn't even be considered good, due to a otherwise poor roster. It's a ludicrous concept in so many ways. Then to use the poor performance of a team with a sub standard back up as proof of the "greatness" of the starter, while disregarding the slew of other injuries on the team to boot he beyond ludicrous and is more straight out trolling for fun. AS some have mentioned Jimmy has had moments when he has shined, but they are so fleeting and rare especially while looking at the slew of games where it is obvious that the 49ers prefer hiding Jimmy and have him constantly handing off the football and when they allow him to pass typically it's designed to protect him from himself so you see Deebo catching screen passes behind the line of scrimmage with a wall of blockers to help spring him or a short pass to Kittle who can turn it into a big play.
The biggest thing Jimmy has going for him is that their are so many mediocre to average QBs to slightly above average QBs in the league who are on teams with rosters that are inferior to the 49ers roster. Jimmy is what I call serviceable if the rest of the roster is really strong, if he played for the Jets we would all see him suck in a big way because he just isn't very good. He's the kind of QB who misses on a big play, more often then not, but will on occasion hit on it and everyone is so surprised and of course those rare strikes will be used to confirm his greatness ( while ignoring the numerous bad passes) by those trolling for fun. Megs is just another version of mrschaney ( who does the same for Andy Dalton).

I think the issue is that the 11-15 range QBs arent really all that good, either.

Imo, Jimmy G is a bad fit on the Niners regardless of what you think of him. Niners have physical freaks on their team. You either want the worlds most accurate pocket passer or well...Trey Lance who can run around and has the big arm. Jimmy G is captain average and its hard to maximize your freakish athletes when your QB doesnt have strength.

That said, I wouldn't confuse this year's Niners team with the one from two years ago. The one from two years ago destroyed its NFC opponents. Absolutely demolished them. This year? Barely getting wins.

Without Kyle Shanahan I bet he's Jared Goff.

Interesting numbers about Shanahan, Jimmy G & the 49ers.

2017 they went 6-10. Jimmy G that year was 5-0.

2018 they went 4-12 (all around lousy year, Jimmy G was 1-2) he won 33% of his starts & the 49ers only won 25% of their games

2019 Jimmy G starts all 16 games & they go 13-3

2020 49er go 6-10, Jimmy G was 3-3

This season Jimmy G was 9-6, without him the 49ers were 1-1

And again it's because the alternative was CJ Beatherd and Nick Foles.

It's not like they have Ryan Fitzpatrick or even a Jacoby Brissett on the squad as backup.
