sweet, can you imagine being at that game? You would never have seen such a thing and it was all new, plus Stagg was a mega name back them and to have him at Iowa for the game would be cool, I wonder what the shorts looked like, considering we had short shorts, then now we have almost capri pants on some of these guys, I have seen pics of the balls they used too, similar to a round football with laces, would have been something to see

It was the first 5-on-5 basketball game. Naismith wanted 10-on-10 and I think it was common to have 8-on-8 games before the game. Stagg wanted to try 5-on-5 and set it up. He had enough power and influence that it became custom.

I looked it up. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone who wants to guess. I don't recognize his name but I'm not very familiar with NBA coaches. He finished his degree last year after 31 years f coaching.

Kinnick is the only Heisman winner from Iowa. How many Heisman runner ups does Iowa have?

Yep, Donnie Nelson, great NBA coach...

Heisman runner ups...Banks, Long, I think Karras was too, so 3? But I know our Rose Bowl winning QB Randy Duncan was up there...maybe 4? Interested to see this answer, I know Shonn Greene was mentioned but think he didn't crack the top 5, did Jones the other guy whose number is retired end up in there? I think he was defense though and we know defense doesn't win it...can't think of anyone else who would even be close

Iowa has had 25 different head coaches and 4 years where they did not have a head coach. Here is the list of 8 of them who had, at least, a 5-year tenure at Iowa with a winning percentage.

Which of these coaches would you guess has the highest winning percentage?

Alden Knipe (1898-1902)
Jesse B. Hawley (1910-1915)
Howard H. Jones (1916-1923)
Burt Ingwersen (1924-1931)
Eddie Anderson (1939-1949)
Forest Evashevski (1952-1960)
Hayden Fry (1979-1998)
Kirk Ferentz (1999-present)

*The winner is 2nd in all Iowa head coaches. Dr. Alfred E. Bull went 7-1-1 (.8333) in 1986 as the best % among Iowa coaches.

Just a wild guess - Evashevski? I know we went to a Rose Bowl back in the 50s.

I'm guessing Howard Jones, for no reason what so ever other than the time period.

I'm going with Hoops..who isn't listed. He clearly is undefeated from his coaching position on the couch.
