Pretty much. They used to be useful when you bought a new PC but now that's not even needed.

I was pleasantly surprised by Steam recently. I've been gaming on my I-mac for the last five years or so, and purchased four or five games on Steam.
I'd just assumed when I recently bought a Windows desktop, that I'd have to re-purchase those games. Steam let me download again onto my Windows machine, and so far, so good.
Anyway, one upside of the non disc world, although I suppose Steam could change that policy down the road to squeeze more dollars out of people.
