For the first time in his career he is the best TE in his division.
Disagree. He’s nowhere near the blocker that Dallas Goedert is and everybody got to see Goedert as a receiver in the Super Bowl. And the best ability is availability and Waller has been hurt like 3 of the last 4 seasons.

Very few TE's generate much any value. With that being said Waller is a good guy to bet on a bounceback from. Good move for the Giants as they rebuild their passcatchers.

I dont know about that a good candidate to bounce back thing.

He is already on the wrong side of 30 years old and be turning 31 when the season starts. And even when he played the last 2 years, he was not that good. Not anywhere close to the efficiency that made him spectacular the 2 years previous to that.

For the 100th pick, I am more than happy to find out.

For the 100th pick and $11M a year. It is the later as to why Vegas only got that 100th pick overall.
Giants had to do something though. Their weapons are Barkley and then a bunch of garbage.

Waller can't stay healthy and is going to be 31 at the start of next season. No doubt he's talented, but clearly the Raiders didn't want to pay him $11M per and releasing him would've resulted in nothing or $8M dead cap hit (which I'm sure New York absorbed). The Giants are basically in win now mode after that ridiculous contract to Jones... and they have no weapons outside of Barkley (who they just resigned) so they need a hope and prayer to do anything...

That said, Raiders (by a slim margin) still won this trade - although I would argue it's still positive for both teams. $11M for an injury prone tight end especially with the Raiders rebuilding makes no sense... might as well acquire SOMETHING for him now, and a 3rd rounder should generally translate to a starter.

I like this trade for both.
Raiders get a 3rd to dump for cap space.
Giants get Waller who is well worth risk/reward for them for a comp pick.
Hell the trade is even good for the player.

can't argue injury and blocking. Waller is probably the second best receiving threat as a TE in the league though.

George Kittle might respond with a "Say what???", but I agree when healthy, Waller is a helluva receiver.

He might, but Waller was better before all the injuries. Maybe not now, but we will see

I can agree with that for sure. He has a knack for stretching a zone down the seam and he can make a ton of contested catches. Giants will need to make something happen at WR so they can get the true value out of him.
