My take: the earlier you make the deal, the better prospect you have to give up and the Giants are not going to give up a Belt/Wheeler/Surkamp/Brown type player for 2.5 months of Beltran when they can wait and simply pick up most of his salary and give up a Kieshnick at the deadline. If the Red Sox want to give up more to get him, then by all means have at it.

Not gonna mortgage the future when we're in first place.

Also: keep an eye on Ramon Hernandez; the Reds need a reliever. Chez3 could be part of that scenario too.

Tejada could have stepped into the batters box, facing the wrong way and without a bat and would have had a better at bat that he did 'trying'.

He never ceases to dismay.
