It's official. Everyone in Heat Nation is thinking the same thing: time so start Hassan Whiteside. Not only would this return Birdman to his traditional role as spark guy off the bench, but it would also allow Chris Bosh to play his natural power forward position, which he excelled in during Sunday's game. Why haven't we seen this guy sooner, and why hold off on a developing big man when he is one of the few things consistently giving the whole team a sorely needed boost in energy? -- Cristiano, Bethlehem.

A: You get no arguments here. I thought starting Chris Andersen was a stretch. Yes, the Heat's options were limited once Josh McRoberts went down, and once it became apparent that opening with Shawne Williams put the Heat into too much of a defensive deficit. But until the start of Sunday's second half, Erik Spoelstra largely had shielded Whiteside from playing opposing starters. So, to a degree, we still don't have a read on those possibilities. As long as Whiteside is making progress, it could progress in that direction. More important is getting quality minutes from Whiteside. If you can do that, you can keep Andersen down to the measured minutes he played Sunday, regardless of the role.


Q: Hi, Ira. I'm sure this kid is sneaking up on teams. When do you think they'll start game-planning for him? I don't think it will take long for him to show up on other team's scouting reports. I guess for right now, he's just getting putbacks and is picking up garbage, not really having any plays run for him or showing any other range than around the rim? -- Eric

A: Doc Rivers said the Clippers weren't ready for what Hassan offered. So now we find out if Erik Spoelstra can get a "package" for Whiteside once the opposition is game-planning for him, or whether this is another flash-in-the-pan moment, of which there have been many for the Heat over the years. But you can't teach height, and the Heat haven't had anyone at these lengths for a while. And Whiteside has shown a nice touch with his sweeping hook.

Q: Erik Spoelstra over-thinks/over-coaches at times. Your opinion please. -- Leon, Miami.

A: I think we tend to use the terms "over-thinks" or "over-coaches" when a coach doesn't make the moves we believe are correct. I don't think many thought he over-thought or over-coached Sunday.

The Heat should win with ease vs the LA Fakers , but something tells me Diva Wade is not at all happy with Whiteside taking the spotlight in the win the other day - He will probably want to out play KoMe and play hero ball and hurt the team. Hassan Whiteside said he was motivated vs clippers because doc rivers and his staff told him no when he called them for a workout. So , see , players must be motivated from within before anyone or anything else can motivate them . If only diva Wade and a few other athletes were the same
