Gotta ask because I get the connection between the past and use of "Warriors," but what are your thoughts on "Warhawks?"

I like Warriors better. The key is what will the logo look like? Will they go simple and jsut use a big Gold W on both sides of the helmet or will be an actual character on the helmet. I don't understand they can use the spear. No one has said anything to Florida State about there helmets.

Florida State uses an actual tribe name and got permission to do so. There are too many negative connotations associated with "spear" Florida State and the WFT use or have used a lance even though they are both popularly, albeit incorrectly, referred to as spears or arrows.

Here's a look at a lance....(note the tip and shaft along with an absence of a tail popular with arrows. Designs vary)..

Here's a look at a spear, again note the tip or point and the absence of a head or tail.

Finally, there's the arrow, again note the tail which is absent on both helmet designs.

Ok so why is a logo of an arrow offensive?

I think we can get away with the arrow on the helmet. The real fuss was the team name and native American imagery.

You're conflating the logo with the name so let's clear this up, Many people have used an arrow for various reasons (war, hunting, sport etc) symbolically it isn't offensive at all. As a stand-alone the former face on the side of the helmet wasn't/ isn't offensive, the name of the team is/was. Here's a better way to look at it using your example...

Florida State uses the name "Seminoles" a name that is an identifier with our particular tribe or group, like french, Italian, Russian, Mexican, or Ethiopian. Now, tell me which similar group of people belonged to the former name of this team?

Actually, it isn't political at all, my answer appears above. No worries, I won't go political.

Warriors isn't???

Lots of different kind of warriors, some of which have nothing to do with aggressive foreign policy.

You could argue that RR fought cancer like a warrior, that Greenpeace fought whaling with their cruiser the “Rainbow Warrior”, that any civil rights activist fighting oppression is a warrior, etc.

Not so with a name like “Warhawk,” which has literally one connotation.

just my .02

I agree so the name should of been changed to Warriors and we should have the arrow or spear on our helmets, with the same colors. Case closed. It shouldn't have taken this long.

An emblem of a native American/indigenous person is not racist. The name was seen as racist by some.

Honestly though, how did the rubies become a serious option? Rubies are red but, lmao. Why not name them the washington merlot or even the washington fruity sangria if its just to keep the team colors. Lulz.
