Not much reason to discuss the rest of this year, so moving forward into the last month.

Reds' Kyle Waldrop was designated for assignment Friday.
The Reds needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for lefty reliever Wandy Peralta.
Waldrop appears to be headed for indy ball!

This does not answer the Winker question, but I would guess somebody will be DFA if they plan to add him to the 40-man.

Sampson called up so he is apparently going to last the season.

When Sampson first came up last year. I thought he might do well, but other than a few times on the mound has he not been hammered. Time to let this guy go. IMO.
Up till yesterday I don't believe I have ever heard of Wandy Peralta. I don't follow the minors much anymore. I used to see a lot of young players when I went to FL for spring training, but I haven't been to Spring Training sense the Reds moved to AZ
I recommend anyone who can. To go to spring training. I used to think it would be boring. That was before I went, but you get to see a lot everything is much closer, You get to see a lot of prospects and ML players as well. Plus a lot of knowledgeable fans who love baseball Reds fans and others

Spring training is on my bucket list. As I get closer to the finish line, it occurs to me that seeing baseball before it counts is probably a lot more interesting than watching September come and go, knowing the fucking Cardinals will be in the playoffs again, and the Tigers and some other teams I don't give a shit about.

The deal on Peralta and why you didn't hear about him, as per the Reds website:

A former starter, Peralta was a non-prospect in the Reds' system until transitioning to the bullpen. Since then, he's amped up his velocity and mixes in a plus changeup, pitching to a 2.33 ERA in 58 innings for Louisville. His addition gives the Reds a true lefty specialist in their 'pen, something they've lacked as the only other left-hander isTony Cingrani, who typically fills the closer's duties.

ANOTHER CUBAN PITCHER

The Reds have been busy on the international market, and they are on the verge of adding another top Cuban prospect to the organization.

According to an industry source, Cincinnati has agreed to a $4.75 million deal with right-handed pitcher Vladimir Gutierrez of Pinar del Rio, Cuba.

The Reds have not confirmed the agreement.

Gutierrez, who will be 21 on Sept. 18, was the Serie Nacional Rookie of the Year during the 2013-14 season. He went 5-5 with a 3.90 ERA that season, primarily pitching out of the bullpen. Gutierrez had a 2.45 ERA as a reliever during the 2014-15 season. He features a low-to-mid 90s fastball and a plus curveball. Gutierrez projects to be a starter, but he could also pitch out of the bullpen.

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, each team is allotted a $700,000 base and a bonus pool with four slot values based on the team's record in 2015 for the international signing period, which began on July 2. Cincinnati's overall pool total for this year's signing period is $5,163,400, and the club was already at maximum penalty after exceeding its bonus pool amount by more than 15 percent. As a result, the Reds will not be allowed to sign a player for more than $300,000 during the next two signing periods, and they will have to pay a 100-percent tax on the pool overage.

Overall, Cincinnati has signed 10 international prospects for a total of $7.5 million. Cuban infielder Alfredo Rodriguez signed for $7 million.

Gutierrez left his Pinar del Rio team during the Caribbean Series in February 2015 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and he eventually made his way to Mexico, where he established residency. He was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball on July 7, 2015.

Dan Straily has a tired arm. I would not expect the Reds dugout staff to notice that.

Straily has 159.2 innings, and Finnegan has 154. I'm sure its career highs for both of them. As of today the Reds have 28 games left. If they stay on schedule, they could get 5 maybe even 6 more starts. With all the call ups, and being so far out of the race, I see no reason to give them anymore than 3 more starts, if that many.

"Does Simon really have a dead arm?" Price asked Jenkins,
"Let's put him in a game and see," Jenkins replied.

Irrebarron is wearing No. 33.
Not that you noticed but that was Yorman's number.
Guys who have a number keep it until they aren't on the team anymore.

Just sayin'

3 short of the record for bullpen homers and 1 short of the record for first-batter homers.

Looks like the Reds are in off season mode just like they did last year. The offense is terrible, Averaging about 2 runs a game except when they scored 9 against the Cardinals last week. The Brewers are playing like they don't want to end the season in last place.

watching this abomination of a bullpen ... when the team is able to score 3 runs and realizes that the bullpen is just going to either give it back or make the deficit worse ... fuck this. I am going to start rooting for the Cardinals ...

not.

[QUOTE="eburg5000, post:Next the Pirates then on up the latter, look out Cubs! Really, I would like to see 70 wins, 17 out of 40 that's possible, But I doubt the Reds will continue at this pace either. But still possible.[/QUOTE]

Sense I made this statement, the Reds have lost 12 out of 15 games, and I'm wondering if they can win 6 more games the rest of the way

Yorman hasn't been on the 25 man roster since 2014. They probably couldn't remember what number he wore.

How does a guy spend the entire season on the DL and not need surgery? Answer..... He's out of options and they aren't ready to cut the cord. Yorman's made it through the season and the Reds don't have to worry about him until the end of 2017 ST if they so choose. One thing is for certain, his baseball skills didn't improve sitting on the couch icing his hammy.

Calling up Hernan Iribarren at age 32 without any options remaining is interesting. He had a great season at AAA winning the batting title and the Reds obviously didn't want him to be a free agent, so they add him to the roster and now have up to 6 years of team control if they so desire. It's better than being unemployed, but that's a lot of chasing the dream to never make more than league minimum before age 35.

Yorman will go the way of Denis Phipps and Derrick Robinson, both of whom are in the American Association, the indy league that I follow. Or he may end up in the Venezuelan leagues. Seriously, who needs a spare outfielder? It isn't like a dozen Jose Perazas can't take 50 fungoes and learn how to play it.

Noticing this team and comparing it to others that are more successful, the key thing is, IMO, this team does not know how to win games. Not sure how you teach that but the Cardinals know how to win games. The Cubs know how and inevitably the Giants will. And the Royals.

It is a hard thing to define but it's more than just getting a hit with a man on 3rd base.

This is just a bunch of players who are hoping that something good will happen in their half-inning.

The manager is the worst of the bunch. He does not know how to win a baseball game.

Could be, Irribarron is the guy who can teach that.

Watched the first inning of the game against the Pirates and it's a classic example of a team that does not know how to win a baseball game.

Groover balls on an 0-2 count.

Not having Hamilton is not helping. But another problem is giving up runs early. The Reds have been doing that a lot lately, and when they were on that winning binge last month, they got the lead early. Of course the Reds are not doing much scoring at all lately. It's hard to get an early lead when you can't score runs.

What ever happened to the Reds "making a difference in the pennant race"? The Reds fell apart last year the same way they are this year. I have to put this on Price..

Reds are pooping against bad or average teams as well, the Cardinals series being a rare exception.
