If he was a Jedi he would have sensed the team needed better pieces in the off season. Dippy is more a storm trooper. Might get a rebel but generally misses. Jerry got Teo but then missed out on other pieces that could have helped. Jerry bombed the trade deadline and the team fell short of their goals therefore the deathstar blew up this year with Admiral Servias at the helm.

Problem is, it isn’t spin. Jerry is the human form of the Moneyball algorithm. Analytically, this season was a smashing success. I know everyone honed in on the 54% quote, but the one main quote is that they led the league in getting runners into scoring position is the one that should cause everyone pause. It is the whole myth of Moneyball that .OBP is the number 1 stat or any of the sabermetrics are anything other than more of an individual stat than the traditional statistics. A W is the number 1 stat which for some reason is the least valuable stat in any sabermetric.

Which is the massive irony of the “winning” with Jerry’s tenure because run differential is another huge stat in the Moneyball circles and the Mariners have proven that is a nice stat but irrelevant if you have a good pitching staff and a shitty offense. A run is a run no matter how you manufacture it, an out is an out no matter how you get that out and a win is a win whether it’s against the A’s or Rangers.

I should have never used a Star Wars analogy with someone way more versed in the series....lol. I think the last one I watched was back in 1977 or somewhere back then when the original came out.

If I were to use a Star Wars analogy is I think Jerry thinks of himself as Yoda from Episode I and II but he is more of Yoda in III where for all of the great things he has done, he can’t beat the Emperor with his philosophy.
