The club has not confirmed the deal. No formal plans to officially announce the agreement are in place, but the Pirates are expected to do so Thursday morning at McKechnie Field, prior to meeting the New York Yankees in their final Grapefruit League game of the spring.

Pittsburgh Pirates sign Starling Marte to contract extension | MLB.com: News

So I guess we will find out the numbers at lunch time.

"That's a great deal for him and for his family," Francisco Liriano said of Marte. "That way, he can play without thinking about next year. Now they got Cutch and Marte, so they want to keep the team and they want to win in the future.

"I want to stay here, to be honest," added Liriano, the chosen Opening Day starter who is entering the second of a two-year deal. "I feel at home here; I would like to stay here. It's more comfortable [having Marte and McCutchen behind you]. You just throw the ball, let them put it in play and have [the outfielders] make plays for you."

Well that is an invitations to talk.. what do you think it would take to extend Liriano? He knows if he has a good year he will be getting a real fat payday... I would at least try a 3/36 offer and see if its close?

I was happy... I worry about his bat a little... But his glove and his legs make him worth what the bucs are going to be paying him... anything that he hits is just icing on the cake.

this time next year the bucs could have the best young outfield in the NL!

Now if they could only get a power bat for first base.

Yeah that contract is an absolute steal especially when you consider all of the additional revenue in the league right now. Salaries are only going to go up. I agree he is worth more than double that contract but at least he has some security and is apparently happy in Pittsburgh.

12.5 and 13.5 million seems pretty standard to me. I think the savings is that they are both option years, not a guaranteed year. But assuming he works out, there is no reason to think he won't realize those options years.

Wow. And now Trout gets 6/144. Salaries are going through the roof.

Trout is probably worth more than that, and barring injury will get a lot more once Hamilton comes off the books. By that time he could possibly get $45 million per year.

Yeah, 6/144 is a bargain on Trout, and a good signing by the Angels.
