Watching qualifying for the plate tracks is a waste of time. It does not matter where you start at all so why bother watching? Do you really care if JJ Yeley makes it over Alex Bowman? I didn't watch, but I'm sure it was a shitshow. I guess they didn't learn from Dega last year. Group qualifying just makes zero sense at a plate track unless your goal is to increase the chance of tearing shit up for no reason

Spot on. Precisely Turkey! I normally watch the preliminary stuff just to see all of the changes with cars, sponsors, and driver changes. After I get that info down, you are correct. Everything else you can get by going to the NASCAR webpage or some other venue and see who finished where.

I liked Kurt Busch's idea.... if you can believe that..... Each car runs 5 laps and they take the average of those 5 laps to set them up for the twin races.

Not bad but that will take forever if it is single car qualifying.

As big as Daytona is, they could run as many as 6 cars at a time. If it takes a car 60 seconds to get around the track, send a car out every ten seconds. With that much between the cars, there should be no effect of a draft..... If they wanted to improve qualifying, they can make it work!!!!

They used to take them one at a time. You figure it is what, approximately 2 and half minutes around the track. 50 cars that is approximately 125 minutes with 41 to get lined for the Twins. That is all of the better part of 2 and half hours. That is not long and that is the way it used to be.

No did no sign up for fantasy racing on the Hoop, Psych-ward. I am not sure if I am going to have the time to pick-the-podium for Indy car and F-1 this year let alone fantasy racing. I have followed racing for nearly 52 years-NASCAR before anyone knew about it, NHRA, F-1, and Indy Cars or CART as it used to be known as. We shall see though.

They won't go back to the single car qualifying, that would be them admitting that they fucked up. But they really need to do something. The draft plays to big of a part at those tracks so for 10 cars to go out, the last car in the line, if he plays it right, could have the fastest time.... IMO its just fucked up!!!

Thanks for the invite Psych-Ward. Time is tight this spring so I'll probably pass. I remember that Nova at the Goody's 300. Freakin' Dale was always finding an edge.

And you are right about things being eff-ed up. Frikin' Brian France Jr. is dumber that the sense the Creator gave a bucket of bolts. He is going drive what is left of this sport right into the ground.

I think we will see a staggered qualifying for Talladega. It takes 48-50 seconds to get around Talladega. I think we will see a car go every 15-20 seconds or so, which would considerably cut down on the length of qualifying, and get rid of the driver's using the draft to their advantage.

O.K. my math was a bit off. I remember when they used to do single car qualifying at the mega tracks. It doesn't take that long.

The pack qualifying seems to me is an attempt to eliminate the need for teams to do a qualifying package that is nothing at all like the racing package.

I kind of liked the single qualifying however. It's interesting to see who's really got a good motor and such under them.

I agree 4down20. You can focus solely on the car that is qualifying and no one else.

I sense Danica's career is heading downward. Maybe her and Ricky will start poppin' out babies. When that happens, she'll be done.

I guess y'all missed where Hamlin took partial blame for it. That's ok, keep up the Danica hate!

When you see the replay, Denny Hamlin did little wrong and admitted as much that Danica never saw the move he made and drove down into Hamlin. Just because someone points out that Danica has not done much of anything for nearly two years is not hating, it is just the facts. Apparently jeffro, you have to see flowering comments about her in order for you to not call someone a hater.

#11-Denny Hamlin's comments:
Q) How aggressive were drivers in practice?
Hamlin: "People say in practice that you can't make aggressive moves, but we also have to put ourselves in decent positions where we're going to have to figure out what our car is doing. I went through the middle and it was really wide - it just closed as soon as I had already got inside of her (Danica Patrick) and the lane closed. It knocked me into the 13 (Casey Mears) and we had some attrition after that."
Q) How much damage was sustained to your Camry?
Hamlin: "It's nothing that we have to go to a backup car for, but it messed up other cars. That's the tough part about it. You always have to give a little bit extra room in practice. There's typically not a whole lot of blocking in practice and things like that - that you'll see in the race. Also, you do have to go three-wide in those situations because you have to figure out what your car is going to do. That's just a miscalculation one way or another on one of our parts. Unfortunately some cars got torn up."(Toyota Racing)
